APA Planning Student Organization at IUP

Yesterday, PSO students & faculty had to bid farewell to three of our amazing seniors. Over the last four years, these three gentlemen have dedicated themselves to learning the ins and outs of regional planning and, most importantly, what it means to be a planner in today’s world. PSO feels incredibly grateful to have spent the last few years with you all and we want to thank you for being such an integral part of our PSO family.

You are all bound for greatness, and we can’t wait to see what you accomplish in your communities! Congratulations Class of 2025!

This past weekend, the IUP Planning Student Organization explored one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s most iconic works—Fallingwater. We had the incredible opportunity to tour both the main residence and the guest house. 🌊🏡

Afterward, we visited Ohiopyle State Park to dive deeper into the region’s history and environment. A huge thanks to Dr. Hoch for helping us coordinate this fun trip! 🌲

Yesterday, some PSO members had the opportunity to present their class projects at the IUP Scholar’s Forum organized by the IUP Office of Undergraduate Research.

Some of the courses PSO members are currently taking this semester are Technical Issues in GIS, Advanced Remote Sensing, and Unmanned Aerial Systems for Remote Sensing & Spatial Data Acquisition. Great work everyone! 👏

Earlier this week, the IUP Planning Student Organization attended the 2024 APA PA Conference held in Erie. We had a wonderful time networking with planning professionals, reconnecting with IUP Planning Alumni, and attending numerous informative sessions. Thanks to everyone who helped organize the conference!

Recently, the IUP PSO and Regional Planning students attended the 2023 APA PA conference in Scranton! We had a wonderful time learning new things and meeting new people. We’re looking forward to attending the conference next year in Erie!

Join local author Kevin Patrick in an Indiana Library Book Group Discussion about his book, Near Woods; A Year in an Allegheny Forest, on September 6, 2023, 7-8:30 pm at the Indiana Library, 845 Philadelphia Street, Indiana, Pennsylvania.

At its heart, Near Woods is a nature book that explores the relationship between communities and their near-woods patch of nature by examining the natural and human history of White’s Woods adjacent to Indiana, Pennsylvania. Dr. Kevin Patrick has taught Geography at Indiana University of Pennsylvania since 1993, and has authored, and co-authored other books including, Route 6 in Pennsylvania with Elizabeth and Curtis Roseman, Pennsylvania Caves and Other Rocky Roadside Wonders, and Diners of Pennsylvania with Brian Butko and Kyle Weaver.
