On 10/22 (that's today) we will have Dr. Candace Mixon coming to speak about Islam, Feminism, and Art. Dr. Mixon is a rising academic in the field of Islamic Studies Much of her work focuses on the role of art in the depiction of the Prophet Muhammad’s daughter, Fatima, in the Islamic world. Because of her unique field experience in the Middle East (particularly in Iran), and her research, she is able to bring to Butler University a perspective that is rarely heard in this field.

In addition, there will be wonderful Indian food (vegetarian and non-vegetarian options), a small musical performance, and a book signing event. And of course, BCR credit is also provided.

Hope you can make it!

Current students, alumni, and your friends! If you've ever had any encounter with the idea of biblical inerrancy, and especially if it is a doctrine that caused you to have a crisis of faith when you discovered that the actual Bible did not match the expectations that doctrine led you to have, this is the event for you! Our very own James McGrath is joined by Jason Hentschel. We hope you'll join us as they engage each other and you in conversation about this topic at the intersection of their recent books.

October 20th, 7 pm in Jordan Hall 141.

It's a BCR event, for those who still need to attend more of those! (If you don't know whether you need to attend more BCR events, we can confidently say that you surely need to attend more BCR events!)

Amazing turnout for the latest Muslim Studies guest speaker at Butler University , Bis Excellency Sayyid Mohammad Baqir Kashmiri. Mr. Kashmiri serves as the chief representative of Grand Ayatollah Sistani (Najaf, Iraq) for all Shīʿite Muslims (25% of the Muslim world) in the world. This has significant bearings for all Muslims and non-Muslims, given the deep relationship that Sistani has cultivated with several White House Administrations (starting from Bush onwards, especially), the Catholic Church (Sistani had a meeting with the late Pope Francis), and is a signatory of the Amman Message (an initiative to bring peace between Sunni and Shīʿite Muslims signed in Jordan). One of Mr. Kashmiri chief roles in the last few years has been to deliver a message of peace and dialogue through his organization, IMAM, in a particularly difficult political climate. He will be speaking about his role as the chief representative of Ayatollah Sistani and the state of Shīʿite Islam throughout North America.

Information on the first of this year's Muslim Studies Endowment Lecture Series!

Dr. Syed Zaidi shared the following about the speaker: "Sayyid Sayyid M. B. Kashmiri is one of the most important jurists of Shia Islam in North America. He represents the office of Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Sistani (Najaf, Iraq) and manages millions of dollars of religious tax which is distributed throughout North America for the sake of mosque and religious school establishments. Furthermore, he serves as the central point person and institution of the legal opinions of the school of Najaf and reflects them onto North America. His office and person are a pastoral, religious, and intellectual service that are central to the state of Shia Islam in North America."
