This morning, Butler research took flight. 🚀 SpaceX-35 launched from Kennedy Space Center, carrying Butler students’ research to test how crystals grow in microgravity. Stay tuned for more updates as their research continues, with additional launches planned for December and March.

Sonya Hopkins | Associate Athletic Director/Academics

I have been blessed to lead academic services for our student-athletes for nearly 20 years, and each year I am overwhelmed with pride and joy as I watch them walk across the stage and receive their diplomas.

I know firsthand the challenges of balancing academics and athletics. The dedication, discipline, and commitment required to succeed in both are difficult to put into words. Combined with Butler's rigorous academic environment, these experiences prepare individuals to succeed in whatever they choose to pursue.

I am continually inspired by our student-athletes: those who face adversity and persevere, those who remain steadfast in their goals, and those who begin their journey uncertain of their path but trust that Butler will equip them with the skills and confidence to thrive.

I am deeply grateful to have played a small role in the lives of so many remarkable students. I believe my spiritual gift is service, and I am thankful every day for the opportunity to serve Butler University and its student-athletes.

Max Klein | Sophomore | Economics & Finance

Leaving my entire family behind on another continent was not an easy decision. I left Germany to chase my dream of competing in D1 college soccer in the U.S., not a common pathway for a kid from the German countryside. My goal was to be part of a professional athletic environment while pursuing my academic ambitions.

That goal was interrupted almost immediately when I was injured in my fourth match for Butler. A torn meniscus and damaged cartilage meant surgery and a long, demanding recovery. Yet the Butler community carried me through what was arguably the most challenging period of my life, facing a threatened dream while being 4,500 miles from home.

My international roommates stood by me like brothers, my team supported me like a second family, and professors and coaches helped me navigate the challenges. Looking back, that experience showed me how Butler was preparing me for whatever came next, both on and off the field. Butler became my second home, and I am forever grateful that I decided to come here.
