What does an LHSI internship actually look like?

Every internship experience is unique, but every LHSI intern gains something invaluable: real-world experience, professional mentorship, meaningful connections, and a clearer vision for their future.

Whether interns are contributing to research projects, supporting healthcare teams, exploring public health initiatives, or developing professional skills, they are turning classroom knowledge into meaningful experience.

At LHSI, learning extends beyond the classroom and into the communities, organizations, and workplaces shaping the future of health and life sciences.

Career readiness isn't built overnight. It's developed through experiences, challenges, mentorship, and a willingness to keep learning.

The NACE Career Readiness Competencies highlight eight skills that employers consistently value in interns and early career professionals. Whether you're conducting research, networking at a conference, collaborating on a team, or taking on new responsibilities, you're building skills that will serve you far beyond your internship.

Swipe through to learn more about the competencies and take a moment to reflect on your own growth. Which competency are you strongest in? Which one are you working to develop this year?

🌟 Former Intern Spotlight: Anna Barrett 🌟

From gaining hands-on experience in developmental medicine at Riley to pursuing a PhD in School Psychology, Anna’s journey is a great example of where curiosity, hard work, and a willingness to step outside your comfort zone can lead.
Her advice for future interns? “Give it everything you’ve got, even if you aren’t sure at first.” 💡

We’re grateful to have been a small part of Anna’s path and can’t wait to see the impact she continues to make in the lives of children and families.

Throughout the upcoming academic year, we’ll be sharing alumni stories, internship experiences, student spotlights, program milestones, professional growth, behind-the-scenes moments, and the incredible community that has made LHSI what it is today.

Thank you to every student, mentor, partner site, and supporter who has been part of the journey over the last two decades. Here’s to honoring the past, celebrating the present, and inspiring the future.
