POSITION: Lineman
DEPARTMENT: Electric Department
POSITION PURPOSE: The Lineman ensures the availability and reliability of the electric distribution system for delivery of electric service to customers of Greenwood Utilities.
This position has the primary responsibility in the completion of construction and maintenance projects in a safe and timely manner. This position is responsible for the on-the-job training of Apprentice Linemen. This position is responsible to continuously promote safety and build employee ownership, so that each employee assumes a personal responsibility of safety every day.
JOB EXPECTATIONS: Support the strategic plan of Greenwood Utilities. Actively support a positive, proactive, results oriented work culture that is innovative and demonstrative of the company’s values. Perform necessary work to complete new and replacement construction, repairs, and maintenance of the electric distribution system using standard construction practices. Assist in stocking material on trucks. Ensure all work performed is completed in compliance with policies and guidelines and on schedule. Ensure that a safe working environment exists for fellow workers and the public through the application of safe work practices. Report all significant problems to their supervisor. Perform all other duties as requested by supervisor. Performance will be evaluated on a continuous basis with scheduled feedback sessions on a periodic basis. Job will require being “on-call” as appropriate.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The duties of this position involve climbing, sitting, standing, walking, bending, and lifting heavy objects. It also requires the basic need to see, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to handle and feel objects, tools, and controls.
PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Possess and demonstrate GU’s company values (Integrity, Safety, Service, Excellence, Accountability); a team player; demonstrated leadership; maintain a “big picture strategic view; solve problems; ability to translate policies into daily routine operations; and self-assured, confident and goal oriented. This position requires completion of an approved Apprentice Lineman Program and 5-7 years approved adequate on-the-job training is preferred but less experience at the apprentice level will be considered. This position also requires a Class B or higher driver’s license. Adequate on-the-job training to be approved by the Director of Operations.
