To officially kick off the 2023 International Education Week, Celeste Miller, a senior double majoring in French and Linguistics, shares why she chose to continue to study a world language at Iowa.

"I study a world language because it allows me to continue learning and practicing what I already worked so hard to learn. Learning a language is not easy and is a continual process, so furthering my language-learning journey in college was the best way to keep up with it and become fluent. In addition, learning a language opens you up to a new culture and way of thinking. The more you learn a language, the more you can understand the nuances of how people speak and interact. Learning French has allowed me to look at the world from a new perspective in a way I was not expecting."

The University of Iowa celebrates International Education Week (IEW) every year. This is a way for us to help students become prepared for a global community and bring future leaders to the US. IEW is organized by the US State Department, the Department of Education, and educational institutions throughout the US.

We want to give our students more opportunities to learn and connect. We are proud to be and look forward to providing a platform for everyone to participate and become global Hawks.
