We are very pleased to announce our forty-first concert series for 2026-2027, bringing fascinating early keyboard instruments, brilliant performers, and wonderful music to Eastern Iowa.

All concerts will take place at Agudas Achim Synagogue, 401 Oakdale Blvd., Coralville Iowa USA. ICEKS series concerts are free, no tickets required, and all are welcome!

The first concert will feature the twice Grammy-nominated and widely acclaimed harpsichordist Jory Vinikour, who returns to Iowa with a program featuring music of Domenico Scarlatti, the brilliant Italian-Iberian contemporary of Johann Sebastian Bach. Jory's performance will take place on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at 7:30 PM. NOTE SPECIAL TIME!

Our second concert also marks the return of a favorite artist, the multi-talented multi-keyboardist Trevor Stephenson of Madison, Wisconsin. This will be a special program as it will feature a new chamber/continuo organ belonging to the Madison Bach Society. We are most fortunate to have Trevor bringing this beautiful new instrument to Iowa for this concert, which will take place on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at 3:00 PM.

The final concert of ICEKS' 2026-2027 series brings another returning artist, the piano virtuoso Gail Olszewski, who will be bringing her 5-octave fortepiano, a modern reconstruction of the type of piano that would have been familiar to Viennese composers of the later 17th-century, such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Franz Josef Haydn. If you haven't heard this music performed on an authentic instrument, you will want to attend Gail's concert! It will take place on Sunday, May 2, 2027, at 3:00 PM.

We're pleased to announce the next ICEKS early music concert, featuring early keyboard specialist GREGORY CROWELL, performing on several clavichords based on historical models. This will be a rare opportunity to hear and compare several clavichords. While clavichords--quietest of early keyboard instruments--were somewhat ubiquitous domestic instruments, they were and are ill-suited to the concert hall, due to their tiny sound. In an intimate setting such as our venue, the sound blooms, and the subtleties of dynamics and pitch, which made it unique among pre-fortepiano instruments, can be savored.
Dr. Crowell's clavichord concert will take place on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at 3:00 pm, at Agudas Achim Synagogue, 401 Oakdale Blvd., Coralville, IA 52241, USA. Admission is free.

40: The number of years ICEKS has been presenting early music concerts in Eastern Iowa! Please join us for the opening concert of our 40th Anniversary Season which will feature DR. KOLA OWOLABI, Professor of Organ at the University of Notre Dame. The concert will take place in the Organ Hall (downstairs) at the University of Iowa's Voxman Music Building in downtown Iowa City, on Sunday, October 5, at 3:00 pm. As with all ICEKS events, this concert is free and open to all. We are excited to team with the University of Iowa Organ Department to present this exciting artist performing on the UI's spectacular Taylor & Boody organ. Please plan to attend!

I'm very pleased to announce the final concert of our 2024-2025 concert season. Please plan to be with us for a solo recital by the wonderfully talented young harpsichordist, Aya Hamada. The concert will take place at Agudas Achim Synagogue, 401 Oakdale Blvd., Coralville, Iowa USA, on Sunday, April 6 at 3:00 pm. Aya's program will feature French music for harpsichord. As with all ICEKS events, admission is free and all are welcomed. Please mark your calendar and plan to join us for this delightful afternoon of music!

It's time for another exciting and moving harpsichord concert, the second in our 2024-25 ICEKS concert series. The brilliant young harpsichordist Michael Delfin will grace our stage for a solo harpsichord program featuring music of the famous 3 "Bs"--no, not those "Bs!" Try William Byrd, Dieterich Buxtehude, and (well, one from that other group) Johann Sebastian Bach. Other music to be performed includes that of J.P. Rameau, Michelangelo Rossi, and a more modern work by Emma Lou Diemer. Michael won the top prize ex aequo in the Ninth Jurow International Harpsichord Competition, shortly after being nominated to the Diapason 20 Under 30 Class of 2021. He is the recipient of the Bourbon Baroque Nicolas Fortin Scholarship, the Historical Keyboard Society of North America Bechtel/Clinkscale Scholarship, and the Catacoustic Consort Early Music Grant. As a pianist, Mr. Delfin has won prizes in the International Crescendo Music Awards, Chautauqua International Piano Competition, and two consecutive concerto competitions at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Recent performances include recitals for the Ear Taxi New Music Festival, The Stone, and the Western Early Keyboard Association, and solo appearances with Lyra Baroque, Bourbon Baroque, the CCM Concert Orchestra, and the American Chamber Symphony. We are very pleased to bring Michael to Iowa for what promises to be a very special concert.

This concert will be presented at the Agudas Achim Congregation Synagogue, 401 Oakdale Blvd., Coralville, IA 52241 USA, on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at 3:00 in the afternoon. As with all ICEKS concerts, this event is free of charge and open to all. Please join us if you can, and bring a friend or two to hear this delightful music from our past!

We're proud and excited to announce our 40th Season of early music concerts in Eastern Iowa! Please mark your calendar and join us for our first season concert, featuring fabulous baroque violinist Ken Aiso and also fabulous harpsichordist Sonia Lee from Los Angeles. The concert will take place Sunday, September 22, at 3:00 pm at Agudas Achim Synagogue, 401 Oakdale Blvd, Coralville, Iowa, USA (right next to Iowa City). Featured will be both music for baroque violin and harpsichord, and solo harpsichord, including works of Corelli, Frescobaldi, and other 17th-century Italians, as well as two sonatas by J. S. Bach. As with all ICEKS events, admission is free and all are welcome. Please join us if you can, and help us celebrate 40 years of live early music in Iowa!

Ready for some special piano music? Please join us for our FINAL concert of our 2023-24 season, featuring Viennese fortepianist DANIEL ADAM MALTZ performing music of arguably the three greatest composers of the Classical Period: Josef Haydn, Wolfgang A. Mozart, and Ludwig van Beethoven. Daniel will be performing on a five-octave replica fortepiano very similar to the instruments used by the composers.

Called “master of the Viennese fortepiano,” Daniel is praised for his “extraordinary precision and lightness” (The Common Reader). Critics applaud his “very sensitive phrasing” and “marvelous dynamic contrasts” (Marblehead Current) featuring “broad warmth” and “lavish but tasteful” playing (Classical Sonoma). He is in demand worldwide with 50+ tour dates per year as a sought-after soloist, Lieder accompanist, and clinician.

The concert will take place on Sunday, March 31 at 3:00, at Agudas Achim Congregation in Coralville (Iowa, USA). As always, this ICEKS concert is free and open to all.
