At Iowa, we cultivate leaders in professions of speech-language pathology and audiology. Our program trains Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists.

We also train future researchers in our PhD program. Our undergraduate program prepares students for future work in Communication Sciences and Disorders.

The University of Iowa Summer Program for Youth Who Stutter Or Are Deaf/Hard of Hearing in an Inclusive, Nurturing Environment (UI SHINE) is right around the corner! 🥳

UI-SHINE will be held July 27-30 at the University of Iowa Speech, Language, and Hearing Clinic. Campers will be provided with daily individual and group therapy experiences facilitated by graduate student clinicians and licensed speech-language pathologists.

One CSD graduate will return to CSD as a professor next fall. 👩‍🏫

Researcher Sharice Clough (MA-SLP '18) studies neurogenic communication disorders, which occur when there is damage to the brain. As she returns to CSD, she looks forward to instructing the next generation of SLPs.

CSD in action! 🦸

Speech-language pathology graduate students, alongside clinical assistant professor Laura Schmitt, volunteered at the Eastern Iowa Stroke Camp at Camp Courageous on Saturday, May 2nd. The United Stroke Alliance hosts an annual Retreat and Refresh Stroke Camp for those who have had a stroke and their loved ones.

We're thrilled to announce that Danny Guest will join us as a tenure-track assistant professor this fall! 👨‍🏫

Danny comes to us from the University of Rochester, where he works at the intersection of hearing science, psychoacoustics, and computational modeling. His research focuses on how we perceive sound and how those perceptual processes connect back to underlying neural mechanisms.

We are thrilled to announce that Corinne Jones will join us as an Associate Professor this fall! 🧑‍🏫

Corinne comes to us from the University of Texas at Austin, where she holds appointments in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences and Neurology. Her work sits at the intersection of swallowing physiology, neurodegenerative disease, and translational clinical research.

Assistant professor and psycholinguist Ethan Kutlu is investigating how humans perceive and produce speech. 🗣️

As PI of the Speech, Signs, and Systems Lab, Kutlu leads a team of student researchers in observing what happens in our brains when processing language. He was also recently named an Oustanding Reviewer by Cognition.

Congratulations, Dr. Nour Alsabbagh! 🎓

Nour successfully defended her PhD thesis, titled "Critical mechanisms of auditory object detection in listeners with and without hearing loss," on April 17. We are so proud of her and this immense accomplishment!
