Ohio University offers equine courses year-round: spring, summer, and fall semesters.

The curriculum is designed to provide you with a sound foundation in management, care, business, and equestrian teaching. The two-year degree prepares you for entering the equine industry or furthering your education by completing a Bachelor's degree. A link to our catalog is provided below.

The Equine Studies degree prepares individuals for various careers within the field. Key areas of study include equine anatomy, physiology, nutrition, health, behavior, and business principles relevant to the industry.

Our courses are all offered online, with you seeking out opportunities for hands-on experiences in some of the courses.
This summer, EQU 2000 Equine Industry Career and Leadership Development as well as EQU 1080 Equine Health I and EQU 2090 Equine Health II are offered.

Today, we have 53 students enrolled in Equine Studies Courses! The number of students majoring in Equine Studies has more than doubled!

Our program design allows you to tailor your experience and gain skills in the area you want to focus. By choosing where you do your experiential work, you can find sites that will contribute to your education! For example, the Equine Studies Progam is a member of the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International which means the program is part of a wonderful network of PATH Centers and Professionals across the globe! One of our graduates (Charlene Deanna Petredis) completed an internship in China! A track that leads to therapeutic riding instructor certification is offered.

In addition to PATH, Int., the Equine Studies Program is part of the Certified Horsemanship Association. CHA offers certifications in Riding instruction and Stable Management. A track is also offered to achieve either or both of those certifications as well.

Our Commercial Equine Business Management Track enhances your business skills in the equine industry. This track will lead you to starting a business, improving a business or starting a non-profit equine-related business.

Equine Studies continues to expand and grow! Exploration of equestrian clothing for the horse and the rider, recreational riding, and coaching are three areas that are flourishing!

Equine Studies is a fully online program. This allows flexibility in your work, location, and equestrian speciality you want to focus on!
