Celebrating Black joy, community, and culture at the Black House Block Party ✨

This incredible event was led by the Black RA themed housing team — Makenna (), Menkem (.daniel), and Darius () — who created such a vibrant space for our community to come together in celebration of Black History Month

From music and line dancing to double dutch, yard games, musical chairs, and amazing food, the energy was truly unmatched

Shoutout to a special performance from Black Excellence Choir featuring Izzy, Savannah, Kia and Makenna who brought everyone together with the Black National Anthem

We also want to shoutout:

📸 Xavier () is perfect for capturing these incredible moments

🎧 DJ MIMZ (.onyia) for DJing and keeping the vibes going all evening

🛍️ Chitu (.clt ) for selling his entrepreneur creations, custom-made hats, and the Nigerian snacks!

A special thank you to the Rosa Parks House residents — Summer (.sxmmxr_), Asia (), and Gregory (gg3times1) — for originally envisioning this amazing idea, and to Makenna for helping bring it to life

We’re also grateful for all the Black organizations and volunteers who helped make this event such a success.

And of course, CBCRR was proud to support this celebration through funding and help uplift such a meaningful community gathering

Black joy deserves to be celebrated every day. Black history is history and it doesn’t stop when the month ends🫶🏾

Leaders must be tough enough to fight, tender enough to cry, human enough to make mistakes, humble enough to admit them, strong enough to absorb the pain, and resilient enough to bounce back and keep on moving.

"Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that." -- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Today we take the time to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who was a social activist and Baptist minister who played a key role in the American civil rights movement from the mid-1950s until his assassination in 1968. King sought equality and human rights for African Americans, the economically disadvantaged, and all victims of injustice through peaceful protest. He was the driving force behind watershed events such as the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the 1963 March on Washington, which helped bring about such landmark legislation as the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act.
