What If the Secret to Leadership Is Getting Out of Yourself?

On this episode of TIPS, hosts Ashlie and Gilbert, along with Dr. John Townsend, welcome Greg Campbell, executive coach, author of The Surprising Power of the Coil, and longtime friend and advisor to Dr. Townsend. Together they explore how authentic relationships transform both leaders and organizations.

Drawing from decades in asset management, real estate, and organizational leadership, Greg reveals how the principle of ""the coil,” which is intentionally assembling valuable threads of personal relationships over time, unlocks genuine connection.

You'll discover:
• Why servant leadership begins with getting out of yourself and genuinely listening to others
• The coil principle: how shared experiences and authentic interest create lasting, meaningful relationships
• Why vulnerability is the greatest leadership attribute—and how it strengthens, not weakens, your influence
• The power of "both/and" thinking: balancing profit with people, confidence with character, connection with competence

Whether you're a leader seeking to transform culture, a professional building meaningful relationships, or anyone wanting to live with greater purpose and impact, this conversation offers a blueprint for authentic leadership rooted in service.

Dr. Bethany Peters, Professional Certified Coach (PCC), is today's International Coaching Week spotlight. Dr. Peters is an leadership practitioner specializing in executive coaching, team facilitation, and leadership development. With a Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership and over two decades of experience spanning higher education, qualitative research, and organizational development, she partners with leaders and teams to translate insight into lasting action — helping them lead with clarity, build healthier cultures, and do their best work together.

Her current research interests examine how leaders enact a coach approach in their day-to-day leadership, the application of positive psychology in coaching practice, and how coaching cultures take root and sustain themselves over time. Grounded in a strengths-based orientation to development, her work bridges scholarship and applied practice — anchored in qualitative research and the belief that leaders who learn to coach others, and who lead from their strengths, build more reflective, resilient, and human-centered teams. As a practitioner, she is known for layering multiple assessment frameworks such as CliftonStrengths, Working Genius, the Enneagram, MBTI, the IDI, and the EQ-i 2.0 to give individuals and teams a fuller picture of how they work and how they can work better together.

As a coaching educator and adjunct faculty member, Bethany is passionate about developing the next generation of coaches and leaders to practice with rigor, humility, and authenticity. What she loves most about this work is helping leaders and teams build the kind of self-awareness and capacity that compounds over time — creating the conditions for sustainable growth, healthier relationships, and a deeper sense of purpose.

What If the Secret to Happiness Is Something You've Been Taught to Delay?

On this episode of TIPS, hosts Ashlie and Gilbert welcome back Dr. Scott Keith—executive director of 1517, author of Being Dad and the new book Being Family, and Concordia University Irvine alum—to challenge cultural narratives about marriage, family, and vocation.

Drawing from biblical foundations and demographic research, Scott reveals why the church and society have inadvertently taught young people to prioritize career and financial stability over marriage and family—and why this is backfiring.

Whether you're a young adult navigating marriage decisions, a parent wondering what to teach your kids, or someone seeking to understand vocation and purpose, this conversation offers a biblical blueprint for a life of meaning.
