For many high school students, deciding what to pursue after graduation can feel like a hopeful shot in the dark. Sometimes, getting hands-on experience is all it takes to turn a question into a possibility.
At CUSP, the High School Summer Research Program gives students the opportunity to explore pharmacy firsthand through research, mentorship and hands-on learning, before theyāve even started college.
Kayla, Sydney, and Kaitlyn all got their start in pharmacy through the program, and each found something different that helped shape their path:
š¬ Kayla
āThis program was my first introduction to research. Through it, I gained a deeper understanding of the review writing process and learned how to critically summarize while collaborating with a group. One of the most memorable highlights was presenting our findings and producing a mock article!ā
š¤ Sydney
āThe most impactful experience was the mentorship we got from Dr. Montazeri. Since it was my first experience, I was nervous to join a research team, but he made it a super easy transition as he coached us through research. I also loved meeting like-minded peers in the programāone of them is now one of my best friends and roommate!ā
š Kaitlyn
āBefore participating in the program, I was still unsure if pharmacy was the right profession for me. However, the program opened my eyes to the many different career pathways within pharmacy that I was previously unaware of. Seeing the variety of options available opened so many doors for me.ā
Today, all three are Pharm.D. students at CUSP, continuing the journey that began with a summer of exploring what pharmacy could look like.
