The ASCE UCI Environmental Team earned 1st place at the Environmental Design Competition placing higher than 13 other universities in the Southern California and Hawaii region! The competition was a part of the Pacific Southwest Symposium (PSWS) 2026 hosted at CSULA. This year's prompt was to design and construct a small-scale wetland system capable of treating reverse osmosis concentrate. The ASCE UCI Environmental Team was able to get in contact with the San Joaquin Marsh to obtain plants and with a grad student who was able to give actual reverse osmosis concentrate from OCWD. This helped contribute to the success of the project for water quality testing. Prior to PSWS, they had to create a design report and a poster. At PSWS, they poured simulated reverse osmosis concentrate through our system and water was tested by judges for parameters such as pH, total dissolved solids (TDS), dissolved oxygen (DO), and total organic carbon (TOC). They were judged based on design, operation, water quality, data analysis and presentation.

Inviting CEE graduate students to attend the Spring CEE Social Climate Town Hall on Friday (May 29th) from 3:00-4:30 PM in MDEA. The student leaders of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) at UCI and Reframing Civil & Environmental Engineering (CEER) are hosting this event to engage CEE students with their peers' anonymous survey responses and feedback on the safety, stability and support in the department. We plan to display the survey results and quotes around the auditorium for students to anonymously comment and to engage in discussion on the department climate with their peers in CEE. Food and drinks will be provided as well as a chance to win gift cards! Students can RSVP in the flyer below or at the following link: https://ow.ly/uQJE50Z4sMa
