NPR's The Indicator talks to Greeshma Gadikota about why government funding is key to advancing creative new technologies to fight climate change:

Yesterday we brought you a debate over whether the government should subsidize industries in the name of economic growth and societal benefits. Today on the show, we zero in on the climate industrial policy of the Biden administration, which is funneling billions into experimental projects that prom...

In 1983, after a storm washed out an unstable pedestrian bridge over Ithaca’s Fall Creek, the Cornell student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) rebuilt it. Forty years later, in 2023, the current student chapter of ASCE renovated the bridge again, for the next 40 years or more.

For these students and alumni, the bridge represents a meeting place, a legacy, a manifestation of what they’ve learned at Cornell, including the importance of serving the community.

Alumni from the Class of 1983 returned during Reunion weekend in June for their 40th reunion and a rededication ceremony for Flat Rock Bridge.

Special thanks to Charlie Trautmann, Ph.D. ’83, who lives near the Flat Rock Bridge, and began coordinating the renovation more than two years ago, when he and his wife noticed it was deteriorating. Cornell University College of Engineering
