With the pomp and circumstance of Commencement, graduation season brims with tradition. But the rites to be celebrated by and for will have some notable departures from those of their distant predecessors.

The time has come to celebrate our wonderful Class of 2026 🎉🎓

Meet Rob Plovnick, an EMBA/MS in Healthcare Leadership graduate student ⬇️

Question: Which experience had the biggest impact on you?
Answer: “I’ve had so many impactful experiences in my time at Cornell! One experience that had a particularly deep impact on me was a team research project in our Healthcare Policy and Incentives course with Professor Braun. Our assignment was to analyze a real-world nursing home with significant deficiencies and develop recommendations that would both improve quality and sustain financial viability. The deep dive into this facility was both fascinating and sobering, serving as a vivid reminder of how much work remains to strengthen the healthcare system in this country. It also reinforced that meaningful progress requires creative thinking and the kind of multidisciplinary collaboration my student team modeled throughout the project.”

Congrats, Rob!

Question: What is a memory from your program that you’ll always carry with you?
Answer: "When I first arrived in August, I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my master’s degree. There were hundreds of different career paths, but none truly resonated with me in the months leading up to the program. As I moved through orientation, surrounded by over a hundred students and staff, I came across Dr. Steve Shu, the Program Director. I mentioned that I was interested in consulting, but wasn’t sure where to begin.

He said, “Wait five minutes, I’ll be back.” He returned from his office with a copy of the book he wrote, The Consulting Apprenticeship. I went home and read it front to back. For the rest of my time at Cornell, I carried that book with me everywhere and used it as a guide, not just for consulting, but for life.

From that moment on, I knew I wanted to pursue consulting. More importantly, it showed me how genuinely supportive the Cornell community is. During one of the most competitive hiring cycles in finance and consulting in recent years, that simple interaction helped me find direction and grow into the professional I aspired to become. I will never forget that moment, and I hope that one day I can help others the same way Dr. Shu helped me."

Q: What is the most valuable thing you learned during your MPS, and how will you use this experience or knowledge in the future?
A: "One of the most impactful parts of my MPS experience has been taking MBA-level courses. Stepping into that setting pushed me to operate at a higher standard and adapt quickly to a faster-paced, more demanding environment. Learning directly from industry professionals gave me insight into how decisions are actually made, beyond what you see in a textbook."

Congrats, Collin!

Question: What will you always remember about your time at Cornell?
Answer: "I will always remember the overwhelmingly good feeling right before the first game of the basketball season this year (I play on the varsity men’s basketball team) knowing what the journey had been to get there and that I was going to play."

Q: What advice would you give incoming Dyson students?
A: "Don’t worry so much about what everyone else is doing around you. Know your interests and attack them, whatever that may look like for you. My freshman year I knew I wanted to go into finance and so I stressed so hard about getting into clubs and other things and let that discourage me at the time when I wasn’t able to get in. But in hindsight, I have realized that those are good things to pursue but life isn’t such a direct line where there is only one answer to the path."

Q: Doing the greatest good is a big part of being a . How will you carry this into your career and life after Cornell?
A: "It’s part of what drew me to attending Cornell in the first place is I always wanted to have the ability to make a great impact in the world charitably. I’ve seen the way that achieving certain goals can put you in a position to help a foundation for education or hygiene in Mali for example. These are the initiatives that I want to be able to give myself freely to."

Congrats, Corbin!
