In this course, they plan to critically examine the production and performance of race, ethnicity, sexuality, and gender through literature and contemporary performance genres such as spoken word, slam poetry, and hip-hop theater. Beginning with the 1960s and the Civil Rights Movement, this course explores the ways in which poets and performers create work that engages with the politics of identity.
