While the students were sloping, we were learning! Our LRC Spring Workshop featured presentations by three of our amazing language faculty about their latest projects, and a fascinating look at accommodating color vision deficiency in the language classroom.

Thanks for a great semester. We'll see you in the fall!

สวัสดี! 👋 That's "hello" in Thai, our Featured Language of the Week!
Spoken across Thailand and in Thai communities worldwide, Thai is known for its beautiful script and musical sound. 🎶

Fun fact: Thai is a tonal language, meaning the pitch used when saying a word can change its meaning.

This week we're highlighting Bosnian, Croatian, and Serbian (BCS), closely related South Slavic languages spoken across the Balkans. While each has its own cultural and regional identity, they share many similarities in grammar and vocabulary, making them mutually intelligible languages.

Fun fact: Serbian is written using both Cyrillic and Latin alphabets, while Bosnian and Croatian primarily use the Latin alphabet.

Cornell offers BCS instruction through the Shared Course Initiative in partnership with Columbia and Yale. Visit https://www.lrc.columbia.edu/language/bosnian-croatian-serbian/ to learn more about BCS language courses through the SCI.
