Congratulations to Renee Cortez, one of our 2026 PTK Alumni Hall of Honor recipients.

Renee believes that no student should miss out on the Phi Theta Kappa experience simply because of cost. She is actively involved in fundraising efforts that help cover membership fees for eligible students who are experiencing financial hardship. Renee understands that joining PTK can be intimidating, especially for students who may not feel they belong in academic spaces. At Catalyst 2024 she noticed a scholarship recipient from her region who was nervous about walking onstage. Renee made sure that student was celebrated – cheering loudly and encouraging others to do the same. What could have been a moment of fear became one of pride and belonging. That support made a lasting impact and that student remains engaged with PTK today as an alum.

“There was a time when community college felt like the end of the road to me, but Phi Theta Kappa completely changed that narrative. Through Phi Theta Kappa and the support of the Coca-Cola Academic Team scholarship, I’ve found purpose, leadership, and a community that inspires me to become the best version of myself.” - Parsa Vard, Calhoun Community College, AL.

"My experience in Phi Theta Kappa has been incredibly positive! Through PTK I was able to give back to my college campus that has done so much for me. Alongside other driven individuals like myself, I gained leadership experience and professional development skills that will benefit me for years to come. I feel so blessed to have received multiple scholarships through this society which greatly support my future academic and career goals as I transfer to a four-year university to earn my bachelor's degree." -

“It only takes one person to believe in you, and that belief begins with yourself. Being a Guistwhite Scholar made me realize that when passion and genuine care for those around you are shown with love and charisma, they become impossible to ignore. Because others believed in me too, I will now be able to transfer to a four-year university and continue my studies while carrying the same love and dedication that have always guided me. I will also become the first woman in my family to transfer to a four-year institution in the United States, where I will continue pursuing higher education and never stop striving for more. But more than that, PTK, you changed my life.” - Hilary Ramirez Payamps, Miami Dade College Padrón Campus, FL.

"Coming to the U.S. and navigating my path as an international student was full of challenges, but I stayed determined to keep my promise to my mother to complete my education. Winning the New Century Transfer Pathway Scholarship confirmed I was on the right track, opening the door to a full-tuition transfer scholarship to Ole Miss University. I am deeply grateful to PTK and the Coca-Cola Foundation for this life-changing opportunity, and I want to remind every student: don't give up—if I can do it, you can too." - Pham Trung Hieu, Salt Lake Community College, UT.

“Returning to college as a nontraditional student completely changed the direction of my life. The support, encouragement, and recognition I have received through Phi Theta Kappa, along with the various awards and scholarships I’ve been honored to receive, gave me the confidence to truly believe I belonged in spaces I once thought were out of reach. My experiences through PTK have inspired me to continue pursuing leadership, advocacy, and community impact through both my academic and personal goals.” - Nichole Hoffard, Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, OH.

"Serving as my chapter President through PTK has been one of the most transformative parts of my community college experience. It has given me the opportunity to grow as a leader, advocate for students, and build a stronger sense of purpose as I prepare to transfer to a four-year institution. Receiving the Hites Transfer Scholarship is both an honor and a meaningful source of support that will help ease the financial challenges of continuing my education. I am deeply grateful to PTK and to the donors whose investment in students like me makes opportunities like this possible." - Ingrid Toukep, Montgomery College, Rockville, MD.

"Phi Theta Kappa has given me the opportunity to go outside my horizons and give myself a clean slate after a brief gap in my college career. As a nontraditional student in my mid-20s, receiving the All-USA Academic Team and Coca-Cola New Century Transfer Pathway scholarships—as well as the All-Tennessee Academic Team recognition—has given me the confirmation that taking a hiatus doesn't define me. As I prepare for my bachelor's degree soon, I want to thank Phi Theta Kappa for giving me the tools to flourish in a rigorously academic setting." - Alaya Lee Walton, Columbia State Community College, TN.
