The Financial Management Association (FMA), a student organization within the Gregory D. Brown Department of Finance, Economics & Accounting, recently welcomed alumnus Cary Guffey, Certified Financial Planner with PNC Investment Co LLC in Birmingham, back to campus for a guest presentation in the Regions Finance Lab at Merrill Hall.
During the presentation, Mr. Guffey spoke with students and faculty about portfolio development and investment strategy, highlighting the role of the Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF) in providing hands-on investment experience. Established in 2011 by former finance faculty member Gene Padgham, SMIF allows students to apply classroom finance instruction through experiential learning.
Mr. Guffey earned his MBA from Jax State and currently serves on the JSU College of Business & Industry Board of Advisors.
The event was hosted by FMA and presented as part of the FEA Executive Exchange Series and the Glenn Huie Guest Lecture Series.
We are grateful to Mr. Guffey for returning to campus to share his professional experience and perspective with our students. His continued engagement with Jax State and willingness to invest time in the next generation of finance professionals are truly appreciated.
