Meet Dr. David Hoppey, Professor of Special Education and Director of the Ed.D. program in Educational Leadership!

For the past 10 years at UNF, he has been dedicated to preparing educators and leaders while advancing inclusive education and improving outcomes for students with disabilities.

One fun fact? Dr. Hoppey has been a high school football official for 38 years! 🏈

Silverfield graduate Thomas Rice was honored with the Cody Carmicle Spirit of the Game Award at the 2026 U.S. Association of Blind Athletes - USABA Goalball National Championships!

A recent graduate of University of North Florida's Special Education - Disability Services program, Thomas has dedicated years to growing goalball in his community by recruiting athletes, running practices and creating opportunities for new players to discover the sport.

Through Goalball Central, he has also helped expand access to the sport by streaming tournaments for athletes, families, coaches and fans across the country.

This award recognizes the impact Thomas continues to make both on and off the court. We are proud to celebrate his accomplishments and the difference he is making! 👏
