Congratulations to Dr. Scott Watkins, Adjunct Professor of Piano, on a busy fall season of performances!

Dr. Watkins was one of six pianists from around the world featured at the American Liszt Society International Festival at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. He has also performed with the San Marco Chamber Music Society and joined members of the Jacksonville Symphony for its Chamber Music Series.

You can hear Dr. Watkins here at UNF on Friday, November 6, for American Blueprints, an all-American piano recital featuring music by Edward MacDowell and Howard Hanson, along with the world premiere of a new Piano Sonata by Jacksonville composer Benjamin Shorstein. Dr. Watkins previously made the world premiere recording of Hanson’s sonata after its manuscript was discovered in 2007.

A morning of chamber music with the Phaeton Piano Trio!

The UNF School of Music welcomed internationally acclaimed musicians Friedemann Eichhorn (violin), Peter Hörr (cello), and Florian Uhlig (piano) for a master class presented by the Beaches Fine Arts Series and coordinated by Dr. Nick Curry.

Students had the opportunity to learn from these accomplished performers and explore the artistry, collaboration, and musical communication that make chamber music unique.

Meet Hannah Shute, a proud graduate of the UNF School of Music Class of 2020! 🎶

Since graduating, Hannah earned her master’s degree in Cello Performance from Arizona State University, studying under Professor Tom Landschoot. Now based in Phoenix, Arizona, she maintains a private studio of 30 students and performs as a freelancer, studio musician, Candlelight musician, and member of the West Valley Symphony. She also teaches group classes and masterclasses at cello workshops, including Cellobration and the Arizona Suzuki Association’s Annual Suzuki Workshop.

Hannah extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Curry, Professor Friedlander, Dr. Bennett, Dr. Venet, Dr. Gosden, and Professor Taylor for their lasting impact on her musical journey.

Her advice to current and prospective students? Music offers many career paths, from performance and teaching to other fields. Follow your passion, find your niche, and embrace the many roles a music career can offer!

Meet Gisselle Salinas, a past winner of the Greta Challen Berg Opera Aria Competition. Gisselle placed third in 2023 before returning to earn first place in 2024. She is now pursuing her master’s degree in vocal performance at Louisiana State University.

Alexis Greene has an impressive history with the Greta Challen Berg Opera Aria Competition, earning first place in 2023 and second place in both 2024 and 2025. Alexis is now pursuing a master’s degree in vocal performance at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
