School will soon be back in session! While we get ready to prepare for our young ones to go back to school, we think about the school lunches, morning breakfast and dinner that we might want to prepare ahead of time to make our week a little easier. While we think about those meals, often times we forget we can prep and preserve for our littles that may not be in school right now. Save time and money by making homemade baby food with fresh fruits and vegetables. Cook vegetables like sweet potatoes and fruits like pears until tender, then puree until smooth. Freeze in ice cube trays without adding salt, sugar, seasonings, or extra liquids. Homemade baby food can be stored in the refrigerator for 1–2 days or the freezer for 1–2 months. Thaw safely in the refrigerator, on the stovetop, or in the microwave, and always test the temperature before serving.

Did you know? Florida WIC participants can use WIC Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) benefits at participating farmers markets and farm stands to purchase fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables for homemade baby food!
