Our Carson-Newman Nurse Anesthesia cohort officially began gross anatomy cadaver dissections, taking what we’ve learned in lecture and applying it to real human anatomy. There’s no substitute for seeing the relationships between structures firsthand and understanding how that anatomy connects to the care we’ll provide in the OR.

We’re incredibly grateful for the donors whose generosity makes this kind of hands on learning possible. Their gift will have a lasting impact on our education and the patients we care for throughout our careers.

Student Spotlight! ✨Amanda Black✨

I grew up in Knoxville, TN! My first nursing job was at UT medical Center on the Cardiology floor before moving to the CVICU. I was at UT for a few years before I started travel nursing. I did this for about 5 years and it was the best experience! I worked in 10 different states and was able to visit many more throughout my time traveling.

I chose Carson-Newman because of the faculty. They immediately made me feel comfortable and seen in the small amount of time I spent with them! The professors continue to amaze me with how much they care and pour into us every week.

I am excited (and scared) for clinical and to have the opportunity to learn from anesthesia providers in the operating room! #ᴋɴᴏᴡʏᴏᴜʀᴡʜʏ

We are deeply saddened by the news of Dolly Parton's passing today. She was truly an icon in so many ways beyond her music. She was a light and exemplified love in amazing ways. Her faith was inspiring to millions around the world. She truly embodied Truth, Beauty and Goodness through her servant leadership. The impact she made will be felt for generations 🦋

We were honored to award Dolly a Doctorate of Letters in 1990 for her incredible philanthropic work that truly made and continues to make a difference in the lives of so many in our region and throughout East Tennessee.

Please join us in praying for the Parton family, friends and community during this time.

✨ Student Spotlight: Shannon LoPresti ✨

Originally from Chicago, Shannon earned her BSN from Lewis University and worked in the Neuro ICU at Advocate Christ Medical Center

I chose Carson-Newman because of its faith-based education and the dedicated faculty and staff who truly invest in their students. I value the opportunity to grow not only as a healthcare professional, but also in my faith and character, surrounded by people who are committed to supporting and encouraging me along the way.

I am most excited to watch myself and my classmates grow throughout the program and ultimately become exceptional, compassionate healthcare providers who make a meaningful impact in the lives of their patients.

Semester 2: Complete. ✅

Today, our DNAP Class of 2028 officially wrapped up our summer semester! Every exam, lab, simulation, and challenge has brought us one step closer to becoming CRNAs, and we’re incredibly proud of how far our cohort has come.

A special thank you to Mrs. Donna Chrisman, Director of Nursing Operations, for treating our cohort to lunch after our final exam today. Your kindness and support mean so much, and we truly appreciate you helping us celebrate another milestone.

Here’s to a well earned break before we begin the next chapter of our journey. 🦅🩺

Another week another incredible student to spotlight 🎉 This week we highlight an East TN native, Braden Allen!

I am originally from Church Hill, Tennessee. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from East Tennessee State University and worked in the Cardiac ICU at Johnson City Medical Center.

I chose Carson-Newman because it is filled with incredible individuals who are committed to helping me grow not only as a healthcare provider, but also as a servant leader and a person. From my interview through my time in the program, I have felt fully supported by the faculty every step of the way.

I am most looking forward to beginning clinical rotations in the next few months, gaining hands-on experience, and learning from the many outstanding anesthesia providers throughout the region.

I’m originally from Marietta, Georgia. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Kennesaw State University and worked in the Cardiac ICU at Piedmont Atlanta.

I chose Carson-Newman because the faculty really care about us, not only as future healthcare providers, but also as individuals! From the very beginning, they made me feel very welcomed.

In the future, I’m most excited to begin clinicals and finally have the opportunity to apply everything I’ve been learning in the classroom while continuing to grow!
