We are excited to announce our new Instructor of Voice and Choir, Dr. Stephen Larson! He comes to us from Ball State University and will begin this fall. Welcome to the A-State Music family Stephen and 🐺⬆️❤️!

Bio:
Conductor, pianist, singer, and teacher Stephen L. Larson has spent nearly two decades teaching and performing in the Midwest. He draws from a broad musical background to craft a creative and enriching experience for both musicians and the audience.
Larson earned a Doctor of Arts in conducting from Ball State University, a Master of Arts in conducting from Eastern Illinois University, a Master of Music Education from VanderCook College of Music, and a Bachelor of Music from Millikin University.
Larson taught music in the Central Illinois area for ten years, including eight years directing choirs at Champaign Central High School. He co-founded the Urbana Pops Orchestra in 2010, serving as associate conductor, arranger, occasional pianist, and since 2019 the principal conductor.

The Department of Music is pleased to announce its Interim Department Chair, Dr. Ryan W. Sullivan, for the upcoming academic year. Dr. Sullivan has served as Director of Choral Activities and Vocal Studies Coordinator since 2019, and enjoys seeing the many ways music enriches our campus and community. We look forward to welcoming our new and returning students back to campus this fall! We also offer our sincere thanks to Dr. Debi Popham for her work as outgoing department chair and wish her every success in her next chapter.
