, Alumnus and former Army officer Frederick C. Turner, the first African American to serve on faculty at Arkansas State University, was honored in perpetuity following action by the ASU System Board of Trustees, on June 3, 2021.

The seven-member board voted unanimously to approve a Student Government Association initiative to put his name on the Lieutenant Colonel Frederick C. Turner Jr. Military Science Building. Turner began teaching courses in military science in 1969 as part of the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program.

The clock tower of the Dean B. Ellis Library will be lighted red tonight in honor of the A-State men's golf team who wrapped up their first-ever NCAA Championships appearance with a 22nd-place national finish. Thomas Schmidt led the way, tying for 16th at 5-under par, the second highest finish by a Sun Belt men’s golfer at the NCAA Championships.

, Asa Hutchinson joined leaders from Arkansas State University and the New York Institute of Technology for the rededication of historic Wilson Hall on June 2, 2016.

Following a complete renovation, Wilson Hall became home to an additional site of the NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine, further expanding opportunities for medical education in Arkansas and the region.

, the newly renovated Chickasaw Student Services Center was officially dedicated as Eugene W. Smith Hall in honor of Arkansas State president emeritus, Dr. Eugene Smith on May 29, 2009.

The dedication recognized Dr. Smith’s leadership and lasting impact on the growth and success of Arkansas State University.

in A-State history, an F4 tornado struck northeast Arkansas, causing 3 deaths and more than 250 injuries on May 27, 1973.

The tornado tore through Jonesboro between 12:30am and 1:00am on the morning of May 27, causing significant damage across the city. Arkansas State University endured damages on the edge of campus including Kell Field. Jonesboro High School suffered major damages to multiple buildings, among other schools in the area. Various shopping centers and neighborhoods were destroyed in the aftermath of the storm.

Arkansas State University assisted in the recovery by opening dorm rooms to those displaced by the tornado.

, Arkansas State celebrated the groundbreaking of several major campus facilities.

The first ceremony celebrated the groundbreaking for the Honors Living Learning Community.

The second was for the Red Wolf Den, a student apartment complex.

The third celebrated the groundbreaking of the Delta Center for Economic Development.

These projects marked an important step in the continued growth and advancement of the A-State campus and student experience.
