๐ Graduate Assistant Spotlight โ Meet Iratxe Fernandez-Cano !
My path to the MSDA program was shaped by my curiosity about how data can drive decision-making. I have an academic background in International Business, where I first encountered the power of analytics. Talking with my dad helped me realize how important data will be in the future and how it influences industries worldwide. That realization inspired me to pursue the MSDA program, where I can deepen my understanding and apply data-driven strategies to real-world challenges.
What sparked your data-driven journey?
Iโve always been fascinated by the intersection of technology and problem-solving. During my undergraduate studies, I worked on projects where we gathered data from different countries and applied it to real-world scenarios. Analyzing trends and making data-backed recommendations showed me how businesses leverage data to optimize operations and strategy. That experience sparked my passion for analytics, and the MSDA program stood out because of its strong focus on real-world applications. It perfectly aligns with my goal of using data to drive meaningful decision-making.
Future Plans
After graduation, I see myself working in a role where I can use data analytics to drive decision-makingโideally in the sports or finance industry. I want to work on projects that transform complex data into strategies that enhance efficiency and outcomes. Eventually, I hope to lead data-driven initiatives that bridge the gap between raw information and impactful business strategies, making a tangible difference in the industry.
If you could time-travel back to undergradโฆ What advice would you give your past self (or any undergrad) about preparing for graduate school?
Iโd tell my past self (and any undergrad) to step out of their comfort zone moreโtry new things, take on challenges, and not be afraid to ask questions. Iโd also remind myself that networking isnโt just about making connections; itโs about building relationships, learning from others, and being open to unexpected opportunities. Some of the best advice and opportunities come from simply putting yourself out there!
