The EHS Club took an end of semester trip to the Ozark Underground Lab in Protem, MO. This trip allowed students to experience the Tumbling Creek Cave (home to the endangered and endemic Tumbling Creek Cave Snail) and discuss current environmental problems with professionals who work with these problems daily. The Laboratory is the only facility of its kind in the United States, and the field trip provided a totally unique educational experience.

The above ground and below ground tour allowed for a truly immersive experience to understand the connectivity of the two environments.

The overnight trip allowed for some great relaxation too! Great hiking and campfire games!

We are proud to celebrate Christopher Smith, an MSSU pre-med Biology major, for earning 2nd Place in the Undergraduate Student Poster Presentation Award at Anatomy Connected 2026, the annual meeting of the American Association for Anatomy, held in Albuquerque, New Mexico!

Christopher presented his research titled:
“Neural Tissue Distribution in the Human Filum Terminale: Implications for Surgical Procedures.”
This project was conducted in the MSSU cadaver lab, showcasing the power of hands-on anatomical research and its direct clinical relevance.

Special recognition to his co-authors:
Muzamil Jafry
Aarav Sinha (first-year MKEAP students)
Thank you both for your dedication and valuable contributions to this work!

This achievement reflects the strength of undergraduate research at MSSU and the exceptional opportunities our students have to engage in meaningful, clinically relevant science.
Please join us in congratulating Christopher and the entire research team on this outstanding accomplishment!
