🌿 Applications Now Open for the 2026 Greenleaf Scholar! 🌿

Since 2002, the Copper Mountain College Foundation has selected one Greenleaf Scholar each year to receive a four-year full-ride scholarship—covering an associate degree at CMC and a bachelor’s degree at a UC or CSU.
Endowed by local banker F. Roy Greenleaf Jr., this scholarship was created for “average” students with a big commitment to their community. The only criteria: live in the Morongo Basin and plan to return after earning your degree to support the place we all call home.

✨ New this year: All finalists will receive up to $10,000 to attend CMC!
📅 Deadline: February 28, 2026
Apply now and take the next step toward your future—and our community’s future. https://apply.mykaleidoscope.com/program/CMCFoundationGreenleaf2026

What Legacy Really Means

A legacy isn’t just something you leave behind — it’s something you set in motion.

Legacy is the impact you make on the world through your values, your generosity, and the lives you touch. It’s the mark you leave on future generations, long after the moment has passed.

Through planned giving, you can create a legacy that continues to open doors for Copper Mountain College students for years to come. You don’t need great wealth to shape the future — just the desire to make a difference. Planned giving allows every supporter to become a philanthropist, while also offering meaningful financial benefits to you and your loved ones.

Your legacy can be opportunity.
Your legacy can be education.
Your legacy can be CMC.
Discover how planned giving lets you build a future that lasts. https://cmcf.planned.gifts/

We’re having a bit of fun with our wee Grinch made for us by local 3D printing fan Jim Shupe. Grinchee has been all over campus this week - even to the Fighting Cacti basketball double header last night. We’re going to be closing for our Winter Break from December 24 - January 1, and we’d like to wish everyone in the communities we serve a wonderful holiday season. Thank you for your support for your community’s college!

🌵💧 Copper Mountain College Foundation is proud to support students' dreams! 💧🌵

Today, we celebrated CMC student Bryan Ouk-Gutierrez, who is leading an incredible hands-on conservation project: building a tortoise guzzler — a rainwater-catchment system designed to provide a safe, supplemental water source for desert wildlife.
Using a sloped collection surface that directs rainfall into a protected underground reservoir, the guzzler will give tortoises in CMC’s on-campus preserve reliable hydration year-round. Bryan’s work strengthens CMC’s habitat-management efforts while giving students real-world experience in desert ecology, wildlife design, and sustainable resource engineering.

Bryan was today’s Student Showcase at the Board of Trustees meeting — and you can help bring his project to life!

🐢💧 Every gift helps protect our desert tortoises and supports hands-on education.

The Story of Copper Mountain College

Copper Mountain College (CMC), located six miles east of Joshua Tree, is renowned as the college built by the people, its first phase having been paid for almost entirely with local private money and subsequent phases with substantial private help. Now governed by its own locally elected board of trustees, CMC’s road to independence was accelerated by legislative action in recognition of the college’s uniquely strong local support.

The college was initially founded in 1966 when the residents of the Morongo Unified School District, comprised of the communities of Morongo Valley, Yucca Valley, Landers, Joshua Tree, and Twentynine Palms, elected to join the then Coachellla Valley Community District, (currently known as the Desert Community College District.) Classes were first offered in the High Desert in the Fall of 1967 at the Twentynine Palms High School to approximately 60 students.
