of Florida Atlantic University opened in the fall of 1999 and presently enrolls 1,500 students. The campus is home to the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College and offers a variety of upper-division and graduate courses in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts & Letters, the College for Design & Social Inquiry, the College of Education, the College of Engineering & Computer Science and the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science. Distinctive features of FAU Jupiter include the Center for Environmental Studies, the Lifelong Learning Society and the Hibel Art Museum. The campus is also the site of research facilities for both Scripps Florida and the Max Planck Florida Institute. FAU at Jupiter is one of the nation's best buys in higher education. It offers first rate facilities and academic offerings and low state tuition. Students on the MacArthur Campus enjoy the resources of a large research university and the advantages of a small campus setting: low student-teacher ratio, small classes and a relaxed and friendly climate. The three-year project will explore how industry-informed research, entrepreneurship training and early engagement can better prepare undergraduate students for careers in biotechnology and the life sciences.

Florida Atlantic is celebrating six Fulbright Scholars for the upcoming academic year 🙌 Congratulations to two awardees who are part of the Jupiter Campus community 🎉

Dr. Timothy Steigenga, professor of political science at the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College of FAU, will spend four months in Guatemala 🇬🇹 studying the long-term effects of migration on communities in the country’s Dry Corridor. A founding faculty member at WHC, this is Steigenga’s second time serving as a Fulbright Scholar in Guatemala. This project will generate scholarly publications and policy recommendations for mitigating negative impacts of climate-driven migration.

Dana Vouglitois, senior associate director, Office of Technology Development in Florida Atlantic Research, received a Fulbright International Education Administrator Award to examine how universities in the U.S. and France 🇫🇷 can build innovation ecosystems and expand successful international industry partnerships. Vouglitois plans to use the knowledge gained from this project to develop a pilot exchange focused on technology transfer best practices and expand opportunities for international collaboration across the university.

FAU researchers and collaborators have uncovered a promising new lead in the fight against Huntington disease 🧠 🧬

The breakthrough hinges an immune pathway linked to the damaging brain inflammation that contributes to the disease’s fatal effects. Blocking the pathway significantly reduced brain inflammation, protected neurons and improved motor function.

Huntington disease has no cure, current treatments can only manage symptoms. But these findings suggest that targeting the pathway could help slow disease progression – a major step forward for developing future therapies.
