WMU Mentoring for Success Program

WMU Mentoring for Success Program The program is geared toward achieving specific academic and developmental goals that are focused on participants' overall development.

The Mentoring for Success Program is funded by the State of Michigan King-Chavez-Parks Initiative and WMU's Multicultural Affairs for Students and Office of Diversity and Inclusion. The Mentoring for Success Program is a peer mentoring program designed to promote program participants' success at Western Michigan University through increased acceptance rates into participants' intended majors and i

ncreased college graduation rates. Our peer mentors provide undergraduate students in our target population academic support through one-on-one and small-group mentoring sessions, during which they may tutor, facilitate discussions, help students locate resources, and promote academic and life skills development. Our program strives to ensure that all program participants are given the full opportunity to discover and develop their talents, interests, and unique potential, and to provide a learning-centered and student-centered environment that presents the context for intellectual, cultural, professional, and personal growth during the college experience. Program participants will learn to become independent, confident learners and develop good study habits and time management skills that will enhance their education and college experience, as well as to enable them to achieve a post-secondary degree. Interested in the program? Get more information on how to participate in the Mentoring for Success Program and review the list of eligibility requirements and application instructions. The Mentoring for Success Program is funded by the State of Michigan Workforce Development Agency's King-Chávez-Parks Initiative and WMU's Multicultural Affairs for Students and Office of Diversity and Inclusion.

Congratulations to Reem Rasool for winning the Skullcandy Indy Evo Wireless Bluetooh Earbuds!

Reem's mentor this semester was Zion Bahre, and this was what Reem said about Zion and our program: "I like this program because it reminds me to get things done in a gentle and helpful way. I liked being reminded that I was still in control whenever I felt I had fallen behind. Walking in and telling my mentor about all the goals I achieved felt really good and she was super supportive as well."

Reem is a first-year student majoring in biomedical sciences. She is also a Kalamazoo Promise scholar.

Our Story

The Mentoring for Success Program, established in spring 2007, is a peer mentoring program designed to promote program participants' success at Western Michigan University through increased acceptance rates into participants' intended majors and increased college graduation rates. The program is geared toward achieving specific academic and developmental goals that are focused on participants' overall development.
