A student in the physical and health education teacher education program, she scored three goals in the championship game and will be headed to the NCAA Tournament this weekend in East Lansing. Congrats to Physical and Health Education Major, Carter, and the fellowship recipients! Carter will be mentored by our esteemed faculty member, Dr. Mauro Andre.

Congratulations to the Dr. Donald E. Thompson Innovation Research Fellowship recipients, Allison (Elementary Education), Moises (Special Education), and Carter (Physical and Health Education)! These teacher education majors will receive a full year of tuition as they work on developing innovative ideas capable of positively impacting K-12 education through research that challenges the current practices of teaching and learning.

WMU alumna Katy Tigchelaar (M.A. ‘11, Sport Management) is scoring big in Michigan’s sports tourism industry at the West Michigan Sports Commission. Recently, she was promoted to Vice President of Operations from Director of Marketing and Events. ✨

Established in 2007, the Sports Commission (WMSC) fosters economic development by securing and hosting youth and amateur sporting events to positively impact the economy and quality of life in the Grand Rapids region. Since its inception, the WMSC has booked 1,091 events that have attracted more than 1.9 million athletes and visitors who have generated over $557 million in direct spending.

Katy graduated from Western Michigan University with a master’s degree in sport management in 2011. Way to go, Katy! 🐴💛🤎
