Great job, Emma!

Great job, Emma!

Emma is another one of our incredible, 3rd-year OTD students from the Kalamazoo campus. Read below to hear about her experiences with Level IIs!
_______________________________________________________________________

1) What was your first Level II experience? What setting, and where was it located?

"I was placed at Mary Free Bed in their Outpatient Neuro clinic in Grand Rapids, MI."

2) What was something that you learned at this rotation that was new to you?

"I learned so much about how to be an independent OT practitioner at this rotation. My CI was so skilled in OT practice, so she was an amazing mentor for me. This rotation helped me build my confidence in providing interventions to a wide variety of common and rare neurological diagnoses while maintaining client-centered care. I was constantly being encouraged to be creative and take initiative!"

3) How did your Level Is set you up for success? What skills did you carry forward?

"A really important part of the Level I experience is to develop your own treatment style and be able to interact with clients who are there to work with you as you learn. My Level I rotations really helped to spark my individuality as a student and to show how important collaboration is with clients. I took everything I learned from Level Is, both the successes and the mistakes, into my Level II placements to begin as a more confident OT student and was ready to apply and challenge myself."

4) If you had to give anyone considering applying to, or is currently in WMU's OTD/OTA program one piece of advice after having your Level IIs under your belt, what would it be?

"Have confidence in yourself and your abilities. OT is such an incredible field to be in because there are so many different ways that you can help to change peoples' lives for the better. There is never a single "right" intervention that can help improve someone's occupational participation. You can provide another unique perspective to OT practice, so be confident in your creativity!"

Emma has brought so much to our WMU OTD program and we are so of her accomplishing so many amazing things in her fieldwork. Way to go, Emma!
