Over the last two years our faculty, staff and students have have been working with Kalsec Inc. and their team, consisting of alumni from our program, on sustainable brewing methods using hop extracts and products. Jake Kirkendall presented our research at The European Brewing Convention this month and we are excited for the research to be shown at the upcoming World Beer Congress.

This is a big milestone for Kalamazoo Valley Community College Sustainable Brewing Program. We are looking forward to contributing more research like this to the industry 🍻

"The Sustainable Brewing Program provides one of the most comprehensive brewing education programs available. The program teaches you the history of brewing, the science of brewing, operations and every piece of equipment you could potentially think to use. Completing this program allows you to have the knowledge to keep up with technical conversations on any step of beer production and provides a deeper understanding of brewing that you won't easily get from on the job training."

The brewing industry has long been beset by a lack of diversity. This lack of diversity has spanned styles and beverage offerings, ingredients and methods, local and regionally made products, the list goes on! Over the last 30+ years, this lack of diversity has been met with innovation and open minds. However, there continues to be a diversity divide in the industry's workforce and the patrons we serve. Diversity is sustainability and we're proud to foster an environment that champions diversity, in all its forms.

We want to take a moment to celebrate this excellent group of students in our program. Not only is this group of students dedicated to learning the craft, but they are the embodiment of a sustainable future.

A few updates for our Taps On Tuesday events held each week.

- Our online ordering system is up and running again! You may place your orders for to-go beer throughout the week to be picked up during our events. To order, please see the link below.

https://418restaurant.hrpos.heartland.us/menu

- As our events have become increasingly more popular, so have the wait times for our brief event. To help alleviate that and bring you the best service we can, we now have two point of sales. We are also working on a system for you to order at your tables!

Thank you all for your continued patience and support. We hope these changes will make your experiences more enjoyable!

Alumni,

We are reaching out regarding help managing our Great Beer State Education tent at The Michigan Brewer's Guild Winter Beer Festival on February 24th in Grand Rapids. This tent will house all the education institutions in the state and provide information to festival goers about our programs. We will be offering canned beer pours, swag and program information to attract folks!

We need your help to manage this table during the festival hours. There is minimal commitment and ample time to walk around to sample all the excellent beer and network with our community.

If you are interested in helping out, please send an email to [email protected].

Learn how hop extracts from Kalsec can help reduce time to market and make more efficient use of limited resources when developing new beer recipes.
