On April 10, the accomplishments of Criminal Justice Studies and Sociology undergraduate students were celebrated. Jonathan Silva received the Criminal Justice Scholar Award, and Kailen Mokhantha-Sopraseuth received the Leonard C. Kercher Award.

Other award recipients not in attendance were Kelli Sanji, Presidential Scholar; Molly Dixon, Sociology Scholar; and Jennifer Simmons, who received the Robin Scholarship.

Dr. Zoann Snyder, Josh Hilgart executive director of Kalamazoo Defender, and SaConna Johnson, Kalamazoo Defender client advocate manager are collaborating on a new service-learning project for fall 2024.

"Service-Learning for Social Justice with the Kalamazoo Defender Organization" provides an opportunity for students to combine classroom instruction with experiential learning on-site at Kalamazoo Defender and the Kalamazoo County Courthouse.

The project is funded by an experiential learning grant made possible with the support of the Empowering Futures Gift and support from the President’s Office and the divisions of, Academic Affairs, Business Affairs, Student Affairs, and University Advancement.
