Dive into a world of visual stories, each shaped by the exploration of new mediums, in our current exhibit "Evolution of an Artist" created by KVCC alumni Nicci Fields.

The collection forms a visual journey and offers a glimpse into Fields’ evolution: an artist stepping outward from the medium she grew up with and into new territories, discovering how each material reshapes the story she tells and serving as a visual record of the enduring impulse to create.

Come see Fields' artwork on display in the Arcus Gallery until October 30th! Gallery hours are noon-2pm, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Fields, a Kalamazoo native and Kalamazoo Valley alumna, is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice is rooted in drawing and grounded in a lifelong fascination with the surreal. “Evolution of an Artist” traces Fields’ ongoing journey of exploration across materials and techniques. The collection forms a visual journey and offers a glimpse into Fields’ evolution: an artist stepping outward from the medium she grew up with and into new territories, discovering how each material reshapes the story she tells and serving as a visual record of the enduring impulse to create.

📢 Calling all faculty and staff artists! The Center for New Media is seeking art submissions for the annual Faculty and Staff Art Show.

⭐ This year’s show will premier during the downtown Kalamazoo Art Hop on Nov. 6 from 5:30 - 8 p.m.

ℹ️ Participation is open to all current Kalamazoo Valley faculty and staff members, and all creative mediums are accepted. 🎨

✍️ Interested artists should complete the submission form here: https://forms.gle/HrmNAfQeoCZbCjs16 by Oct. 30 at 3 p.m. Artists can submit up to three pieces of original work. More details about submission requirements can be found on the submission form.

🌟 Discover "Evolution of an Artist": A Solo Exhibition by Artist Nicci Fields! 🌟

On Oct. 2, from 5:30 - 8 p.m., visit the Arcus Gallery in downtown Kalamazoo for the opening of local artist Nicci Fields' exhibit "Evolution of an Artist." Fields, a Kalamazoo Valley alumna, is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice is rooted in drawing and grounded in a lifelong fascination with the surreal.

Alumni Art Show Artist Highlight: Enzo Barrett

"I go by Enzo Barrett and I was born and raised in Kalamazoo with my eleven siblings. Our parents homeschooled us, and we were privileged to participate in many creative activities. As a child, drawing always helped me to process life. After my associates degree from KVCC, I moved to Grand Rapids in 2017 and was learning to make rugs until the 2020 lockdown. I spent some time in the GVSU painting program afterwards before I landed a tattoo apprenticeship about a couple years ago. While I do take inspiration from visual artists like Colonel Tony Moore or Dana Schultz, I mostly draw inspiration from life and my own personal experiences. More recently, I have been arranging them into large format drawings I’ve been calling my Visual Memoir. I just started as a Junior Tattoo Artist this past April, and plan to continue to work on my visual memoir as I progress in my tattoo skills. "
