Come check out our happy lights in the counseling center. Happy lights help replenish your supply of vitamin D. Many michiganders are vitamin D deficient because of the lack of sunlight. Research also shows the darker your skin the more vitamin D you need. You can spend 15 minutes under the lamps, take a supplement, or talk to your doctor about doing blood work to test your vitamin D levels.

Hello Everyone, my name is Winnie Wilson and I am joining the team as a Ph. D counseling intern throughout Fall 2022 and Winter 2023. In regard to areas of interest; I am primarily interested in working with adolescents, students, and young adults. Furthermore, I specialize in working with students who have experienced traumas related to physical and/or emotional abuse. As an insight into my counseling approach, I embrace a humanistic, person-centered approach in which I believe individuals are experts on themselves and often have the inherent tools to navigate through challenges. My role is to help individuals recognize these inherent tools, and also support in developing new tools for heavier challenges. Common goals that clients and I often engage involves fostering greater capacities for self-awareness and understanding of relationships with others, strengthening relational bonds; developing and/or identifying values, and making meaning of life's experiences through exploration of goals, desires, fears, strengths, etc.

Fun facts:
I love the outdoors and exploring nature. One thing in particular that I enjoy is watching animals interact within their natural environment. I also enjoy traveling and exploring different cultures and cultural practices. So far, I have had the opportunity to travel to three continents but it is on my bucket list to visit every continent. I would prefer to travel by embarkment on a mission trip. In the past; mission trips have provided me richer experiences in comparison to a vacations due to my ability to interact and develop deep connections with people who I would not typically meet during a vacation.
