UMKC’s Neighborhood Advisory Council

UMKC’s Neighborhood Advisory Council The Neighborhood Advisory Council is the standing organization for neighborhood dialogue established by the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

The Council has been created in recognition of the unique mutual interests of the university and the neighborhoods that surround its Volker Campus: 49/63 Coalition; Countryside Homes; Crestwood Homes; Rockhill Crest; Rockhill Homes; Rockhill Ridge; South Plaza; Troost Plateau; and Troostwood. The Council is the successor organization to the Volker Neighborhood Council (VNC) that operated from 2002

-2015. Methods of engagement that support the growth and development of the Neighborhood Advisory Council partnership are based on recognized best practices, including a format used successfully by UMKC’s immediate neighbor, Rockhurst University, and endorsed by former VNC members. Council membership is open to residents of the nine neighborhoods. Interested residents are encouraged to apply. All applications will be reviewed by an independent Membership Review Committee that will make final recommendations to the UMKC Chancellor. Applicants must possess a strong interest in neighborhood dialogue plus a willingness to engage with community members and University staff in and between monthly meetings. Interested community members are encouraged to use this page to participate in exchanges, ask questions, make comments and provide input to posted documents and University plans.

Chancellor Agrawal has selected the Epperson House Taskforce Committee.

The Taskforce consist of students, faculty, alumni and staff. They will be brainstorming ideas for how Epperson House could be reimagined for the 21st Century campus.
UMKC is spending approximately $60,000 a year performing minimal maintenance and heating and cooling the building, according to Bob Simmons, UMKC Associate Vice Chancellor of facilities. “We’ve estimated that to really restore in a historic sense, the exterior of the building, to add the elevators, and to really make the building purposefully good for the next century is probably about an $8 to $10 million project,” Simmons said in a release from the Historic Kansas City.

Message From Rockhurst University

Please be advised. Rockhurst University will test our Rockalerts emergency and school closure communications system as well as our external public address system on Friday, October 5, approximately 10:00 a.m.

You will hear a loud tone from the bell tower. In case of an actual emergency, this tone would alert students, faculty, staff and others who are signed up for the alert system to check their requested notification methods (e.g., texts or emails) and www.rockhurst.edu for more information. An all clear message will then sound. In case of an actual emergency, this message would let you know it is safe to resume normal activity.

Thanks for your assistance in helping the University conduct this test. We apologize in advance for any disruption that you might experience.

Sincerely,

Alicia
