Nursing students on our Salina campus took a break from studying and class preparation to build their own Stress Less kits. Students created personalized aromatherapy blends, made thinking putty and created customized self-care bingo cards to support their well-being throughout the semester.

Monthly study breaks give students the opportunity to connect with faculty and classmates while participating in fun, engaging activities that encourage self-care and offer a welcome break from the demands of nursing school.

KU School of Nursing-Salina students participated in the Smoky Hill Museum Street Fair Parade on Sept. 26, joining the community for one of Salina’s favorite fall traditions.

The Smoky Hill Museum Street Fair celebrates the region’s history and culture with Old West-themed activities, historical demonstrations, hands-on crafts for all ages and live music and entertainment throughout the day.

Our students enjoyed representing KU School of Nursing, engaging with community members and demonstrating the commitment to service and community involvement central to the nursing profession.

KU School of Nursing-Salina recently hosted its annual Student Services Fair. The event provides students on the Salina campus with the opportunity to connect in person with university support services that are not located in the Salina Health Education Center.

Meeting staff face-to-face helps students learn how to tap into resources available to support their academic success and overall well-being. This year’s fair included eight campus offices, along with Salina Regional Health Center’s Veridian Behavioral Health Department.

We're excited to share that our Bachelor of Science in Nursing program ranks in the top 5% of programs in the country, according to the “Best Colleges” rankings released by U.S. News and World Report.

Of the 671 accredited baccalaureate nursing programs ranked, our BSN program ranked No. 19 in the U.S., No. 14 among public institutions and No. 1 in Kansas.

We recently hosted the first of four flu shot clinics for KU Medical Center students on our Kansas City campus — a special collaboration with the medical center's Student Health Services department. During the first clinic, more than 100 students across all programs received their annual shot.

Students are encouraged to attend our upcoming clinics on Sept. 24, 25 and 30. Find us at the Student Center circle driveway, located on the corner of Olathe Blvd. & Rainbow Blvd. Student ID is required!

KU’s dedication to solving Kansas’ rural healthcare crisis spans distances and decades. The KU School of Nursing-Salina campus was created as part of that commitment to address the gap and help improve the health of communities in Kansas.

Nursing students on our Salina campus have the unique opportunity to experience quality clinical training in a rural setting, exposing them to the values of living and working in smaller communities.

"That's why I'm so committed to it, because we're producing bachelor's-prepared nurses that are committed to rural, that are now prepared to even get advanced degrees. This is the beginning. This is the foundation."

Congratulations to Cui Wang, a recent graduate of KU School of Nursing's Family Nurse Practitioner program, for her acceptance into the VA Nurse Practitioner Residency Program. This achievement reflects Cui's outstanding dedication to veteran-centered care and also highlights the strong academic–clinical partnership between KU School of Nursing and the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) - U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

"During my DNP program at KU, I had the opportunity to explore various areas of practice through specialty rotations and independent study," said Cui. "These experiences were instrumental in helping me find my clinical focus and define my path as a nurse practitioner. That diverse clinical exposure also expanded my knowledge base, built my confidence, and prepared me to transition into independent practice."

Together, KU and the Veterans Health Administration prepare confident, competent and compassionate nurse practitioners who are ready to meet the complex needs of veterans. Programs like the Kansas City VA Nurse Practitioner Residency and the VA Fellowship support novice nurse practitioners as they grow into independent providers grounded in evidence-based practice, interprofessional learning and exceptional clinical mentorship.

Last month, we welcomed 190 BSN students at Dedication to the Profession ceremonies on our campuses in Kansas City and Salina. Students heard from this year's Alumni Award winners, received KU Nursing jackets and recited the dedication oath.
