𝐅𝐀𝐂𝐔𝐋𝐓𝐘 𝐅𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐄 𝐅𝐑𝐈𝐃𝐀𝐘: Dr. Brad Ashburn 🌟

This week, we’re excited to highlight one of the most innovative minds at UH West O‘ahu—Dr. Brad Ashburn! 🎬🔬 With a PhD in Chemistry and an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Dr. Ashburn brings a unique focus on the intersection of art and science, particularly in the physical sciences and computer programming. His expertise bridges the gap between creativity and analytical thinking, giving students a fresh perspective on how these worlds connect.

His dedication to fostering this blend of art and science has made a profound impact on our students and the UH West O‘ahu community. 💻✨

We’re grateful for the insights and mentorship Dr. Ashburn provides and look forward to the continued innovation he inspires!

The final: Faculty

Our partnership isn't just about teaching academic subjects; it's about creating life-changing experiences where multiple perspectives converge to foster an environment where students truly thrive. This was a resounding theme amongst our faculty members from the Creative Media program and Math and Science departments.

By intertwining art/creative meida with STEM in our everyday curriculum, we're not only making these fields more accessible and engaging, but we're empowering students to carry this knowledge forward, create new insights, and tackle future challenges with both technical expertise and creative vision. Read more about this partnership and the impact it has already made to both programs by clicking on the link in our bio.

No matter what a dad is called, the bond between a father and his children transcends language and culture. A dad is a pillar of strength, a source of wisdom, and a provider of unconditional love. The words may differ, but the sentiment remains the same. It’s the guiding hand, the comforting presence, and the unwavering support that helps us navigate through life’s challenges.

As a creative media graduate and a brand new dad, youʻre discovering the incredible joys and challenges of fatherhood. It’s a role that demands creativity, patience, and unconditional love - all skills that youʻve honed throughout your journey in the creative industry.

Today, we want to celebrate all the new fathers out there who are embarking on this life-changing adventure. Being a dad is the most rewarding creative project of your lives.

Free and Open Source Software is a resource to aid programmers and artist alike to create fantastic projects! Softwares like Blender, Wikipedia, Audacity, and Firefox are some examples of free and open software.

Free Software and Open software are technically different, but are often lumped together.

To become free software, the program must meet the four essential freedoms:

1. The freedom to run the program as you wish, for any purpose
2. The freedom to study how the program works, and change it so it does your computing as you wish. Access to the source code is a precondition for this.
3. The freedom to redistribute copies so you can help others
4. The freedom to distribute copies of your modified versions to others. By doing this you can give the whole community a chance to benefit from your changes. Access to the source code is a precondition for this.

To be considered Open software, there are ten requirements a software must meet:

1. Free redistribution
2. Must include source code
3. Must allow modifications and derived works
4. Must permit distribution of software built from the source code
5. No discrimination against persons or groups
6. No discrimination against fields of endeavor
7. No need for an additional license by those who distribute it
8. License must not be specific to a product
9. License must not restrict other software
10. License must be technology-neutral.

We appreciate the hard work that goes into software and how much it helps artist and programmers!
