UNK Department of Sociology

UNK Department of Sociology Sociology is the study of social life, social change, and the social causes and consequences of human behavior. 1.

Sociology is a major that gets you out of the classroom and into the world-internships, volunteering, Sociology club, service learning.
2. The list of job opportunities is extensive and the demand for these types of jobs is expected to grow significantly over the next decade.
3. Sociology encompasses many or most fields of study, complimenting other majors and minors, perhaps better than any other degree.
4. It opens up doors to graduate school- such as law, teaching, public relations, politics, counseling, and more.
5. There are two ways to earn your degree: on-campus and a fully-online completion program.

The Period Poverty Project at UNK has officially wrapped up Year TWO of providing free menstrual products in women's restrooms across eight buildings on campus!
In just two academic years, that adds up to 10,000+ products distributed 🤯
Fun fact: PPP is run entirely by volunteers and donations. That means it’s truly students supporting students and Kearney community members stepping in to make a difference.
And the momentum keeps going…
During National Menstrual Health Awareness Month (May), we received an incredible donation of 881 products—putting us right on track to launch Year THREE this fall!
Thank you to everyone who’s helped make this possible. This is what community care looks like 💕

Congratulations, Alyssa!

What is Sociology?

Ever wonder why society works the way it does—or how you can make a real difference in people’s lives?

Sociology helps you understand how people, communities, and systems shape lived experiences—and gives you the tools to turn that insight into action.

🌍 Understand society. Support people. Create change.
