Excited to announce the faculty appointment of Lindsey Johnson as Artist-in-Residence for the 2026–2027 academic year!
Lindsey Johnson is an organist, musicologist, and proud alumna of Southwestern Adventist University who combines her passion for music history with performance and teaching. She is currently completing her Ph.D. in Musicology at Arizona State University, where she also earned her Master of Music in Organ Performance, and is thrilled to return to her alma mater in this new role.
Her research explores American sacred music, the contributions of Black women in music, and the role of the organ in the twentieth century. Lindsey has presented her scholarship nationally, most recently “Eva B. D***s and the Oakwood Aeolians: Music, Activism, and Excellence in 1940s Alabama” at the Society for American Music’s annual meeting in 2025.
An active performer and educator, Lindsey has appeared throughout the United States and internationally, participating in organ festivals in Spain, Belgium, Mexico, and Argentina. She has presented at the Organ Historical Society National Convention and recently served on the faculty of a Pipe Organ Encounter Advanced, working the next generation of organists.
Lindsey is also very involved in the American Guild of Organists, serving on the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) Committee after three years on the Young Organists National Committee. She has adjudicated national competitions, been featured on NPR's Pipe Dreams, and was awarded the Organ Historical Society's Biggs Scholarship.
After teaching at Arizona State University and serving as Organist and Handbell Director at North Scottsdale United Methodist Church, Lindsey is honored to return to her hometown of Keene, Texas, as Artist-in-Residence at Southwestern Adventist University for the 2026–2027 academic year.
