Activities and happenings of the Horn Studio at Kent State University!

It’s been quite a busy semester here in the horn studio at Kent State! Here are some highlights:

Recitals by Maddi Long, Nai’Jai Glover, and Tayvis Mayfield! Excellent playing and interesting programming by all. Maddi will be student teaching in the fall and Tayvis will be graduating this week!

A visit to studio class from Cincinnati Conservatory DMA candidate Madeleine Case!

Masterclass on campus with the Boston Brass!

Many band and orchestra concerts and studio performances!

We are all excited for the summer and to pick it back up in the fall!

We’ve had a busy beginning of the spring semester here at Kent! The first couple weeks had the KSU Wind Ensemble preparing for their trip to Columbus to perform at the OMEA Professional Development Conference. It was a spectacular performance all around!

Congrats to Orion Lewis on his wonderful senior recital today! It was a demanding program of solos and quartets and was played magnificently by all. We will miss him as he goes off to student teach in the spring!

Massive thanks to Cleveland Orchestra hornist Hans Clebsch for coming down to work with some horn and trumpet students in a masterclass last night! Congrats to Orion, Nai’Jai, NJ, and Tayvis for performing. It was an inspiring evening with much to take away!

Congrats to the Wind Ensemble and Symphony Band on an outstanding concert last night! Excellent first band concert of the year!

First concert of the year in the books! The orchestra horn section performed wonderfully at the Hometown Bank Plaza in downtown Kent. It was a fun concert and a great way to bring the Kent community together!

Week two is off to a great start here in the horn studio at Kent State! We are all refreshed from summer and ready for another fulfilling semester!

Last day of classes here at Kent State and we’ve had a week full of performances! The Symphony Band and Wind Ensemble started us off with a concert on Sunday, the Horn Choir performed in combined studio class on Monday, and the KSU Orchestra closed us out with a combined orchestra and choir concert last night. Everyone sounded magnificent!

Congrats to studio members Tayvis Mayfield, Orion Lewis, and Maddi Long for their outstanding solo performances these past couple days! Tayvis gave a terrific junior recital on Saturday and Maddi and Orion performed their jury pieces for the combined brass studios on Monday. Everyone sounded great!

Yesterday in studio class we were joined by University of Cincinnati DMA candidate Seth Johnson for a masterclass! NJ, Nai’Jai, and Sarah each played extremely well and we all had much to gain from Seth’s excellent instruction. Congrats to everyone!
