TODAY!!! 📢🚨📢🚨

Representatives from Ocean City, Maryland will be visiting our building. The Ocean City Police Department has been an excellent resource for several of our students, consistently providing high‑quality, paid summer internships for those interested in serving as Public Safety Officers. These positions support the Police Department during the seasonal tourist months.

Public Safety Officers serve as civilian support staff within the Patrol and Support Services Divisions. They are typically assigned to areas such as Arrest and Detention, Parking Enforcement, or general support for Patrol Operations. Students receive formal training and assistance in securing lodging for the summer.

For 2027, the hourly pay rate ranges from $20.14 to $21.15, and there are opportunities to earn additional bonuses for achieving various milestones throughout the summer employment period. In addition to employment, students are eligible to earn Internship credit.

Ocean City Police Department will be available to meet with students from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. We will have a table set up for the recruiters on the first floor of Merrill Hall.

Congratulations to all the students who participated in this week’s three-minute SURE presentation sessions. The presentations were a culmination of the research students conducted over the summer under the mentorship of a paired faculty member. You can learn more about the summer SURE program here. Thank you to all the donors, Ann Gosky, and staff who made this event a huge success.

Pictured below: Ana Ravaglio Lavalle presented her research on family visitation and incarceration. Pictured with her mentor Dr. Christopher Dum. Devin Sager presented on her work on food security and college student well-being. Dr. Carla Goar, Dr. Clare Stacey, and Dr. Elias Nader served as judges, and Kevin McCreary was the session moderator. Congratulations again!

Come and get them!! 🚨📢

Dr. Webster retired a few years ago. He is an expert in deviance, family violence, and work and organizations. He was also a great methodologist who taught many of our research methods courses.

He has offered books from his library to anyone interested. There are more books than in the video. They are free for the taking in room 207 this week. There are some really fundamental books in the mix and TONS of methods books, which are always nice references.

(Your dedicated poster excitedly grabbed a book or two I regretfully sold back as a grad student)
