Celebrating 54 Years of Passion, Curiosity, and Teaching Excellence!

We are thrilled to announce that long-time educator and Kent resident Jon Secaur, ('72, Ph.D. '94) is being inducted into the EHS Hall of Fame and receiving the Centennial Alumni Award!

From starting his career at Crestwood High School to shaping young minds for 29 years at Theodore Roosevelt High School, and spending over 40 years inspiring Kent State Golden Flashes in physics, Secaur’s dedication to education is unmatched.

Whether it was pioneering remote physics labs, patenting safety inventions with students, or sharing his favorite course, "Seven Ideas That Shook the Universe," Jon has spent decades helping students see the beauty in science. Even after earning Emeritus status in 2022, his love for teaching brought him right back to the classroom in 2024!

As he likes to say—borrowing from poet Mary Oliver—a teacher’s job is simple: "Pay attention, be astonished, and tell about it."

Honoring Leadership, Compassion, and Legacy! 💙💛

We are thrilled to honor Lee Schwebel with the College of Education, Health and Human Services Distinguished Service Award!

From continuing his family’s 50+ year legacy with Kent State University—starting with the Schwebel Garden Room and the annual Schwebel Lecture Series—to mentoring students through mental health and career challenges, Lee’s commitment to uplifting others comes straight from the heart.

As an alumnus of Emerson College, Lee was deeply moved by the lessons of May 4, 1970. To ensure the human cost of history is never forgotten, he spontaneously stepped forward to sponsor full trips for Boston-based, political communications students to attend Kent State’s annual May 4 commemoration and build cross-campus solidarity.

"Much has been given to me and much has been expected of me," Lee said. "And I hope that my legacy will show that I truly cared and I gave back, and everything came from my heart."

Congratulations to Amity Noltemeyer, Ph.D.

We are thrilled to celebrate Amity Noltemeyer, Ph.D., Dean of the College of Education, Health, and Society at Miami University, on her induction into the EHS Hall of Fame!

From her early days practicing as a school psychologist in Butler and Trumbull counties to leading over 3,100 students and 175 faculty and staff today, Noltemeyer has dedicated her career to transforming educational systems and advancing student mental health across Ohio and beyond.

Her remarkable career highlights include:

- Securing over $9.2M in external grant funding (including the $6M Ohio School Wellness Initiative and Project AWARE)
- Spearheading innovative degree pathways with partners like the Cleveland Clinic and Butler Tech
- Mentoring nearly 120 graduate students through their research journeys
- Serving as past president of the Ohio School Psychologists Association and former Editor-in-Chief of "School Psychology International"

As CEO of the ADAMHS Board of Cuyahoga County, Joyce works tirelessly on the frontlines of public health—modernizing countywide crisis care, expanding recovery services, and helping build a more compassionate behavioral health system for individuals and families in need.

Among his many proudest accomplishments, Joyce spearheaded the launch of the new $30 million Glick Recovery Campus Crisis Center and brought the $27 million Hitchcock Center for Women in Cleveland’s Hough neighborhood from vision to reality.

From arriving at Kent State as an international student from Hungary, to earning her Ph.D., founding the beloved Annual World Poetry Reading, and developing nationwide tools for international student success, Györgyi’s journey is a inspiring reminder of the power of community, resilience, and global leadership.

Today, as Director of the Palla Center for International Programs at Cumberland University, she continues to empower international scholars every single day.

Openings for students at Kent State University's CDC

The Child Development Center (https://shorturl.at/29AcM) is now enrolling for 5-day preschool programs for the 2026/27 school year. The CDC is an early years laboratory school on the Kent Campus with a long tradition of professional and pedagogical excellence.

Congratulations to Justin Jeffery, Ph.D., recipient of the 2026–2027 Alumni Award!

Kent State University's Higher Education Administration program has selected Jeffery, Ph.D., for this well-deserved honor, recognizing his exceptional career and leadership in higher education.

After earning his B.A. in Political Science and his M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration and Student Affairs from Kent State, Jeffery went on to build a remarkable 15+ year career in student affairs.

Today, he serves as the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students at Texas A&M University, where he champions student well-being, safety, and campus life.
