The United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) today announced that U.S. Secretary of the Army Daniel Driscoll will deliver the 90th commencement address at USMMA for the Class of 2026 on Monday, June 22.

“Nowhere will you find a more incredible group of young patriots than at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. I am looking forward to welcoming Army Secretary Dan Driscoll to campus to inspire our midshipmen and see firsthand the vital infrastructure upgrades the Army Corps of Engineers is working toward at Kings Point,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy. “Secretary Driscoll is a true patriot who is dedicated to helping President Trump deliver a stronger, more lethal military. Together, we are putting America’s armed forces and merchant mariners first again.”

“We are excited to welcome Secretary Driscoll to Kings Point. His distinguished service and leadership are particularly meaningful for the Class of 2026 as they prepare to sail on their license and commission into military service during challenging times in the world,” said USMMA Superintendent Rear Admiral Anthony Ceraolo. “Our partnership with the Army Corps of Engineers is so critical to the success of our campus modernization program, and we look forward to building on this partnership to deliver the world-class campus our midshipmen deserve.”

About Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll:

Daniel Driscoll is the 26th Secretary of the Army. As a veteran, lawyer, and former venture capital executive, his experiences provide a unique approach to leadership and problem-solving. Honorable Driscoll is a third-generation soldier who deployed to Iraq with the 10th Mountain Division, and the experience showed him firsthand the impact that decisions made in D.C. have on soldiers in the field.

As Secretary of the Army, he places soldiers first in everything he does. He is streamlining, overhauling, and cutting red tape so that soldiers get what they need to dominate the battlefield.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), New York District, and the U.S. Department of Transportation recently broke ground on a critical maintenance dredging project in the Hague Basin at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy

This will allow USMMA vessels to safely transit within the basin and dock at the academy. The dredging is part of a multi-year Campus Modernization Plan to rehabilitate aging infrastructure and strengthen the academy’s training capabilities in accordance with President Trump’s executive order to restore America’s maritime dominance.
