URI’s 34th annual Landscape Architecture Lecture Series takes on the question

“How can we design landscapes that are more resilient, regenerative, and ready for the future?”

With three nationally recognized practitioners and scholars.

This year’s theme, “Regenerative Landscapes,” is the first series hosted by URI’s new Department of Earth Sciences, Planning, and Design, and spans from ecological restoration, climate adaptation, land justice, energy transitions, and more.

All lectures are free and open to the public!

Wednesday, Oct. 14: Nick Nelson, fluvial geomorphologist with Inter-Fluve and Harvard Graduate School of Design, on how communities can live with and restore rivers and local ecologies.

Monday, Nov. 2: Billy Fleming, designer, planner, and assistant professor of landscape architecture at Temple University, on design and planning precedents for tackling climate change at a planetary scale.

Wednesday, Nov. 18: Wendy Andringa, of Assemblage Landscape Architecture, on designing landscapes that adapt to a changing climate.

Hi! Im Katie Pagnotta from Selkirk, NY. My hobbies include spending time outdoors, running, drawing, and photography. This past summer, I interned at Clark Farms in Matunuck, RI, where I learned the ins and outs of property maintenance and greenhouse management. After graduation, I plan to return to upstate New York and join a landscape architecture firm. I’m so grateful for all the experiences and memories I’ve made in the Landscape Architecture department and I’m excited to see what’s next!

Hi! I'm Nathan Barrette from Richmond, Rhode Island. I enjoy spending time exploring the outdoors and playing guitar. Over the past summer, I interned for the URI Regenerative Community Design Labs where I was able to work with communities within Rhode Island to redesign neglected public spaces. After I graduate I plan on joining a Landscape Architecture firm where I can continue my passion for designing community spaces. It has been a pleasure to be a part of the URI LAR program.

I am from Providence RI. My hobbies are reading psychological thrillers and working out. After graduating, I plan on moving back to Providence and working in RI or MA for the next couple of years. In the future I'd like to get my license in Landscape Architecture and work on projects in different cities/countries.
