Texas A&M University-Kingsville has been part of Ross and Stephanie West’s story for more than two decades. The two met while attending TAMUK and both graduated in 2002. Ross earned his degree in Agricultural Science and Wildlife, while Stephanie earned her Bachelor of Science and later her Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders in 2004. 💙💛

While attending TAMUK, Ross began working as a hunting guide on the King Ranch in 1999, eventually building a career in ranch and wildlife management. Years spent working with hunters, anglers, ranch managers, and landowners gave him firsthand knowledge of the outdoor industry and the needs of those who enjoy the South Texas outdoors. In 2018, Ross and Stephanie recognized a need in the Kingsville community, where options for fishing and outdoor gear were limited. They began with a small selection of saltwater fishing tackle, rods, and reels inside a 900-square-foot office space. As customers asked for more, hunting gear was added, inventory expanded, and Westican Outdoors grew with the community it was created to serve.

Today, Westican Outdoors is continuing that growth with a new, larger location now open in Kingsville. The new store reflects how far Westican has come from its original space while allowing the West’s to better serve the community whose support helped make that growth possible.

Through all of that growth, Westican Outdoors has remained a family affair. Ross and Stephanie raised their three children around ranch life, where hunting, fishing, and time outdoors were simply part of growing up. A longtime friend affectionately nicknamed the children the “Westicans,” a name that eventually found its way onto the family business. Today, their family’s connection to TAMUK continues as their daughter attends the same university where her parents first met.

Ross and Stephanie will celebrate the Grand Opening of the new Westican Outdoors location October 2-3, adding another milestone to a story with deep roots in TAMUK, Kingsville, and the South Texas community.

He currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Director of the UT Center of Farm Management at the University of Tennessee.

💙💛 Jaime Carrillo | Blue & Gold Award

A familiar face at Javelina athletic events, a longtime supporter and former board member of the Javelina Club, and a dedicated advocate for Texas A&M University-Kingsville, Jaime has generously given his time, resources and support to our students and university.

🏆 Honoring our 2026 Distinguished Alumni honoree, Lori Russek ’06, posthumously. 💙💛

For Lori, being a Javelina was more than a connection to her alma mater — it was a lifetime of service, love and dedication to the people who make up Javelina Nation.

For 19 years, Lori dedicated her career to Texas A&M University-Kingsville, serving in numerous leadership roles within Institutional Advancement and the TAMUK Foundation. Behind countless scholarships, gifts and opportunities created for our students was Lori’s commitment to ensuring that every act of generosity made the impact it was intended to make.

But Lori’s legacy cannot be measured by her career alone. She will be remembered for her kindness, warmth, integrity, and the genuine care she showed to everyone around her. Her impact continues through the lives she touched and the Javelinas who will benefit from her dedication for generations to come.

It is our privilege to celebrate the life and legacy of Lori Russek ’06 as a 2026 Distinguished Alumni honoree. Once a Javelina, always a Javelina. 💙💛

A two-time Javelina engineering graduate, Jesus has turned his education and entrepreneurial spirit into a career that continues to create opportunities for others. Today, he serves as President and CEO of International Consulting Engineers (ICE), which has grown from a small local firm into a multi-office enterprise serving clients across the United States and internationally.

Through that success, Jesus has remained connected to Javelina Nation, working closely with the College of Engineering to employ fellow Javelina graduates and provide internship opportunities for current engineering students.

Please join us in celebrating Jesus and the impact he continues to make in his profession and for the next generation of Javelina engineers! 💙💛

For Randy, being a Javelina became much more than where he earned his education — it became a lifetime of service. After first coming to Texas A&I University as a student, Randy dedicated more than 40 years of his career to the university and the students who call it home.

Throughout the years, he served Javelina Nation as an educator, mentor, and university leader, including roles as Department Chair, Vice President for Institutional Advancement, and Chief of Staff. Through every role, one thing remained constant: his commitment to students and helping Texas A&M University-Kingsville move forward.
