Business education classes were very popular with bachelor’s and master’s degrees as well as one-year and two-year certificate programs being offered beginning in 1968. One of the skills these students learned was shorthand, and our photos shows students in two of these classes. One features instructor Dora Clark teaching shorthand, and the other shows students taking transcription using shorthand.

These two photos are from the High School Senior Day held April 5, 1940. This annual recruitment event was for high school seniors in 25 northeast Missouri counties. About 1800 people attended and were treated to donuts before the opening assembly followed by an opera performed by the college students, then lunch, a tour of campus, songs from the choir ensemble, and a dance. The first photo shows high school seniors in line for donuts. The second photo has four faculty members in the foreground, left to right: Edward Avison, Ruth Curtis, Janet Leslie, Clifton Cornwell, Jr. (college student), and Otho Barnett.
