It's hot outside today, Pickler friends and family! Way too hot!

We're saying goodbye to August with a bang and that means YOU should come over to the library to hang! Cool off with a book, or a movie, or pick up a painting for your wall or dorm!

Welcome to the beginning of the week and the end of August- and the beginning of the third week of classes!

We here at Pickler hope our new freshmen are settling in just fine and our returning scholars are as happy to be back on campus as we are to see them back!

To collect your prize, bring a filled out summer reading bookmark to the library circulation desk before closing on Monday, August 31. (Extra bookmarks are available if you lost yours over the summer!)

You are eligible to win a prize if you read 5 books this summer, one from each of the following categories:
- Your favorite genre
- Your TBR (to be read) list
- A genre new to you
- Poetry or nonfiction
- A book someone recommended to you

Our post this week is in remembrance of Dr. No-Yong Park, long-time professor of social science here from 1940 through 1974. He was born in Korea in August of either 1897 or 1899 and came to the U.S. in 1920 after spending time in China. He earned his Ph.D. in 1932 at Harvard in political science and international relations. He taught various classes about eastern Asia and was the first to develop and teach a class on the scientific study of war and peace. Dr. Park passed away in 1976.
