UT alumnus Yoshi Momoki opened Good Ole Tennessee Bar to give fellow Vols a place to connect and feel at home in Japan. This September, he returned to campus to share his entrepreneurial journey with students, bringing lessons in persistence, passion and belonging to the classroom.

How do boards and executives work together to manage risk and oversee cybersecurity and technology?

The Neel Corporate Governance Center’s Governance Insights Speaker series will welcome Ed Magee and Barbie Bigelow on Oct. 30 to explore these shared responsibilities.

Magee serves as chief operating officer of Belmont University’s Thomas F. Frist Jr. College of Medicine and as an independent director of WD-40 Company. Bigelow is an independent board director, former Fortune 50 technology and cybersecurity executive and founder of Emerald Growth Partners.

The two will bring their boardroom and executive experience to a discussion of enterprise risk, cybersecurity and technology oversight.

The Graves Business Plan Competition, hosted by the Anderson Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, gives students 10 minutes to present an original venture for a chance at startup funding. Teams can enter the growth or lifestyle category, with prizes of $10,000, $7,500 and $5,000 awarded to the top three teams in each.

Haslam’s graduate and executive education students now represent 44 states and 16 countries. They bring experience from fields including finance, healthcare, engineering, nonprofit leadership and military service, adding new perspectives to their classrooms and cohorts.
