TR Students – here is great opportunity for to win a free American Therapeutic Recreation Association membership (no strings attached). This in a great example of one TR professional giving back to the field and trying to get students involved in our national organization.

From Danny Pettry:
I recall being told by one of my instructors that a good way to get students involved in our national organization, ATRA, is to purchase a one-year student membership for an intern.
I am going to pay the student ATRA membership fee for one lucky student.
I feel it is a generous thing to do and I felt confident that you’d know a student, or an intern, or a profession in our profession who’d like to know about this.
Please share my Contest to win a student membership link with those who might be interested:

ATRA Peg Connolly Scholarship

The American Therapeutic Recreation Association is excited to provide the opportunity for ATRA Student members to receive the Peg Connolly Scholarship. Named in honor of Dr. Peg Connolly, the first ATRA president and former Executive Director of the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification, this program provides tremendous personal and professional benefits and rewards. Not only do students gain professional knowledge from sessions, students have the opportunity to network with professionals from around the country. ATRA believes the future of our field depends on the continuing growth of students. Today, many former scholarship recipients prove this belief by serving vital roles within our profession.

Basic Info: Eight scholarships are available to undergraduate and graduate (masters and PhD) students attend ATRA’s Annual Conference, including full package conference registration, accommodations, and a meal stipend ($100). Students are responsible for transportation to/from the conference and expected to arrange travel to arrive day prior to conference (9/8/17). This scholarship is a “working scholarship”. Students assist in various aspects of implementing the conference such as room hosting, registration and monitoring social events. This scholarship is available to undergraduate, graduate and PhD members of ATRA who will be enrolled in a therapeutic recreation program during the conference year. Five scholarships are available to undergraduate students, three scholarships are available for graduate students (masters and PhD students); should there be a lack of qualified applicants in any of the categories, scholarship priority will be given to undergraduate students. You must be able to attend a mandatory training the day before the Annual Conference and pre-conference sessions as well as the ATRA Annual Conference in its entirety. Applications are due April 1st. The application is a blended format combining online application and submitting additional documents electronically; please note you will need to submit application in full as there is not an ability to save & return to your application. The online application is available by clicking here. Scholarship recipients will be notified by June 5th & respond no later than June 12th to accept. Upon acceptance of scholarship offered, all winners must register for the ATRA annual conference. (Registration will be opening soon!
